Lovely big room there, lots of natural light. I love parquet floors to look at but does it cause any difference to your sound?
What a lovely collection of highly desirable vintage gear!
What really sets it apart though is the clean, non cluttered layout of both setup and room! Very nice!

I don't think it makes a difference but I've never had this room carpeted so I have nothing to compare it too. The ceilings are so high that any reflections seem not to be an issue.

I've still got the B&W's Peter. The Yams are a very different speaker, much more analytical but also more suited to smaller spaces. The B&W's fill this space like no other, tremendous things.

Have you listened the Yams to position them like that as I think you have L & R speakers other way around than meant to and I find working better in my room.. :)

I have swapped them now and prefer them with the tweeter on the outside!

I am a NS1000 fan myself and have a decent pair.
I note u use the very capable Nak AV7 .
So 5 channels are redundant ?
Quinn (Ken) has 'activated' his NS1000 and is running an interesting thread in Past Masters (NS1000 tweaks)
He was using the same 7 channel Nak power amp but is building a more compact bunch of amps

Would u recommend this amp as a good match for the NS1000?
So far so good. It's a brilliant amp IMO but hard to grab a good one, especially the pre. Mine has been fully serviced and recapped too, at great expense, so it's very rare indeed.
The Art1 is back from the re-tippers.

I really love the look of this TT. And the SME you have paired with it looks amazing. Very Jealous. I'm purely going on looks of course, but can you describe its character of sound please?
Very neutral presentation. The plinth is very inert and heavy and lets the deck do its stuff.
The deck was a very expensive design and I guess an equivalent would be 10k new.

I had a Nak CA7 pre amp in for repair a couple of years ago. It appeared to me that the phono stage board was bought in complete from Threshold as it was of obviously different construction style, PCB materiel etc to the rest of the amp. It was going to cost a few hundred to sort it and the unit was a bit bashed about aesthetics wise so it ended up going back to it's owner without repair.

What is the date of the CA7? Early 80s or later? I have a Threshold SL10 designed by Nelson Pass. This is what it looks like inside:

Superb TT! Have you tried other arms on it out of interest? I seem to remember it was better suited to 10" arms from looking at them on the web - is that correct?
The ca7 is a Nelson Pass design for threshold. Nakamichi bought the design and released it without modification. I don't know the year of my particular amp but I believe it to be closer to 88-90. I sold £3600 of phono stage and a £3500 pre in preference for the Nak.
I bought the deck a couple of years ago and was delighted to learn that it was the late, great, Richard Beckinsale's personal turntable. It arrived in a nicotine coated haze but I cleaned it up and it's now possibly the best tts8000 out there; I've not seen a better one anyway. It came with an sme3009ii improved and a v15iii with shure MR stylus. I bought the IV this year to try and it was a huge improvement. I sold all my other decks and this is THE keeper.
The 801 is an incredible speaker but the very early models are much better IMO , when the original, no compromise brief was adhered to. Later models have a top and bottom end exaggeration which I find overwhelming.
When I move I will sell mine but, in this size of space they are sublime.

Yes the TTS8000 is the bollocks. Now everyone stop talking about them please as I'd quite like to find one that's semi affordable

Lovely looking system - I am especially jealous of the Nak power amp and Technics DAC. They really do look fab.
When I had Yam 1000M speakers I was advised to have them nearer the rear wall. Have you tried that type of setup?
I tried them that way and I can see why people like it. I prefer the more open sound that a free space provides. The Nakamichi drives them beautifully and is a very rare combination with its matching preamp.
The technics is a phenomenal dac, the first that has convinced me that expensive dacs can provide more than marginal improvements.
Shame the technics is not coming with me to Scalford; sharing a room involves comprise.

Yes, because it's a 'proper' one, made in an era when such things were superbly engineered to produce the best possible sound [which sadly these days with digital kit is rarely the case] ;)
