Max2Play software for Pi

I tried it initially with my IQaudio/Pi2 combination, however I had trouble getting it to recognise a WiFi dongle...

I've subsequently moved to piCorePlayer, as I only want a Squeezebox client, not the LMS server portion (which comes loaded with Max2play).

The advantage of piCorePlayer is that it it is so small it runs entirely from RAM, so one can pull the plug without corrupting the SD card, whereas with Max2Play one needs to close it down via the web interface or risk SD corruption.

I thoroughly recommend piCorePlayer as a client, for anyone running LMS on a NAS/Server...:)

I run max2play, it's more than just a player but as Will said if you run LMS elsewhere picoreplayer is all you need.

I using an Pi MusicBox (http://www.pimusicbox.com/) for RPi which I have integrated into Roberts 747 (http://www.instructables.com/id/Roberts-747-DIY-Raspberry-Pi-internet-radiostreame/)
Is really simple to set and use. Simple GUI and works well.

I downloaded this for a play last night. I've not had much chance to use it in anger yet, but it looks like a very powerful piece of software. Although it comes with things like LMS, Squeezelite, MPD etc. the great thing is that you can pick and choose which bits you want to run so if you want to mimic a Squeezebox for instance, you can switch on Squeezelite but leave the LMS part switched off.

What I had been doing was running Roon with its Squeezebox support so I'd installed a copy of Squeezelite alongside my Moode Audio installation, but the problem there is that when you run Squeezelite, it takes over the audio output, so you need to quit it if you want to listen to internet radio via the web browser. I'm hoping that Max2Play will allow the two processes to co-exist without me having to manually intervene by switching tasks. If it does, then that's everything I want from the Pi for streaming use.

Looks good, but it also looks substantially 'overweight' compared to DietPi, which has options to install all the same software without adding the burden of a webserver, just to install apps through.

That said I can see this being a good solution for folk who can't (or won't) access their machine with anything but a web browser.

Is there a screengrab (using HTOP or sommit) of how many processes and resources are used by a 'clean' install of this software?

Looks like its back to the drawing board anyway as it doesn't seem possible to have Squeezelite and MPD running as tasks at the same time as you still have to route just one at a time towards the DAC and if one has control, you'll get no sound from the other. Back to Moode and a script to manually run Squeezelite for now I think..

DietPi looks very interesting but that's one for a rainy day I think.

If you've got the pi plugged in to a screen and with a keyboard it's actually incredibly simple, if not they you need to be at least somewhat comfortable using puTTY or a terminal to log in to it over SSH and set it up that way. Once you're in over SSH it's just like using it plugged in to a screen.

That's great. Thanks for the offer. Seeing as I've decided to ditch Max2Play, I've got a spare microSD card to try out DietPi with. I'm more than happy rooting around inside an SSH terminal so I should be pretty much at home with it. If I can get to a point where I can switch relatively seamlessly between getting MPD to play me BBC6Music and running Squeezelite to play Roon through then that will be pretty much all I need.
