Pair of the celebrated Celestion Ditton 66's. Early models with the black baffles.

Re-built crossovers with Clarity Caps ESA, Mundorf MKP, Mills resistors and Jansen Air Coils. All rewired with Vandamme cable.

All speakers working perfectly and I will include a spare HF2000 tweeter that I bought 'just in case'. Cabinets are pretty good, but not perfect. See last picture of slight damage to one top outer corner. Grilles are good.

Not much else to say, great speakers, only bettered by the JBL 4344's that have now replaced them!

Collection only from Southsea, Portsmouth. Anyone seriously interested is very welcome to come and have a listen to them, bring your own amp too if you would like.

I think I paid £750 for these and have probably spent a few hundred on them. I'm happy to take a bit of a hit to pass these on to another AOS member.

Looking for £800

I've always had a hankering to hear a pair myself! I have heard several of the more junior models in the range (25,44 etc) and been most unimpressed but these are the daddies!

They have a 'big' sound that's hugely endearing I remember - sortof in the IMF mould I think - and are a significant cut above the Ditton 44 and 25 I thought. Unlike many early 70's' boxes, these have a basically sweet and uncoloured upper mid and treble, which is restrained a touch, but NEVER dull and bland at all.

Whether these were ever used in studios as 'professional monitors' I really don't know, as I suspect they'd have been blown up within a very few minutes, but that's never to put them down. The basic midrange quality would have been of 'monitoring' class I reckon.

Good buy for someone and I hope they go to an appreciative home where they can be given a little bit of room around them.

I've seen nice things said about the 66.. and especially when lovingly restored and improved like the pair for sale here. I well remember an ad for the with a fat New York policeman leaning on one and a caption of "we just love your British speakers".

Some of the cheapest models (Hadleigh, County, Ditton 11) I thought pretty decent budget speakers but above them and below the 66 I found them generally "muddy", "slow", "shut in" etc. The UL series seems good. I have a set of UL6 and they are very good speakers, open, fast, transparent etc but slightly let down by a bit of a sting to the sound of the HF1000 tweeter on certain material. I haven't heard the UL8 and 10 but recall rave reviews of the 8 as well as the 6... I can't remember ever even seeing a review of the UL10 never mind seeing or hearing them!

DL's seemed to be where their lower models really came together, but I'm afraid the gear we had back then may well have got in the way when the UL's came out, as the sound was so 'different' from before.

Thanks for the positive comments. They really are very very good speakers and deserve their reputation.

Please don't make me list them on eBay!!
