Raspberry PI USB to Caiman II

I'm using the Raspberry PI USB to my Caiman II with nice results. Seem to remember reading a thread that said Linux should be able to sample up to 192 to the Caiman II is this correct?

Can't seem to make your link work...

...but for what it is worth I bought a Caiman II at Xmas and was surprised to see it working at 24-192 on USB with my Squeezebox Touch. I questioned Stan about this and he told me Linux doesn't need drivers so should work at 24-192 (a nice little bonus). :D

I'm using picoreplayer which is linux based but it only seems to up-sample to 96.

...well the Squeezebox Touch with EDO mods reports it is playing at 24-192.

Does your Caiman have the latest Firmware chip as mine does and is playing in Mode 3 (not sure if this is relevant mind).

I have yet to try out the Pi that I bought ages ago. So I can't give any advise on the Pi or any related software used with it.
But for 192kHz playback in WASAPI mode you need the set it to PUSH mode. If you have it in PULL/EVENT mode then it might only work up to 96kHz, or appear to play at about half the speed.

To be honest I've been having a good listen and am very happy with the way it sounds at 96 rather than anything more. I did wonder whether the crappy old USB lead that I'm using could be limiting it, is that possible? I'm waiting for a newer one to arrive.

USB straight out of the PI does sound great though!

I had a play with various usb leads the other week straight into the caiman from my pc. Some folks will argue blind it doesn't make a jot of difference my ears tell me a different story.

Trust your ears,the caiman will respond to whatever you feed it.

The best usb I have tried is a furatech f2...surpassed a supra and various belkin leads.

Well worth some experimentation IMHO.

What Re-sample parameter string are you using in piCorePlayer, I had mine up-sampling to 192KHz using an IQaudio DAC board with the following paramer string...

Resample = vIsX:::28::

...I've not tried a Pi with my Caiman II however :eyebrows:

FYI I no longer up/re-sample with piCorePlayer, as I prefer the sound of the original 'red book' FLAC...:)

Perhaps we're using different versions of piCorePlayer/squeezelite(Triode's)...perhaps there's a different interface :scratch:

My IQaudio/pi combo is in the kitchen, exposed to cooking fumes, whereas my Caimann II is safely tucked away in the bedroom system...;)

I'm using version 2.01 and Triode's squeezelite. The setting is in the 'Squeezelite Settings' tab. Which view are you using basic, normal or advanced?

The Raspberry Pi 2 and 3 run ethernet and usb off the same controller, so this can lead to a bottleneck when streaming from ethernet to usb.
Wifi in the RP3 does not run off the same controller as usb, so streaming from Wifi to usb should be ok.
If you are using ethernet, it might be better to use an Odroid C2 which runs ethernet and usb completely separate.

Thank you. That makes sense. The software I use is only produced for the PI so I'll try WiFi. I have recently started using a Digi+ hat board. I'm still trying to make my mind up which connection I prefer.

I have an RPI3 using WiFi with a Digi+ into my Caiman II DAC. It sound superb. Big improvement over my SBT and also over the RPI3/Audiophonic iSabre DAC combo.
