I have many interests outside of Hifi and old Fords are one of them , I imported this last year and spent a fair bit of my spare time fiddling and fetling it to get it up and running, had to have the engine and gearbox fully rebuilt as it was worn out but now it starts and runs perfectly and can now enjoy taking it out when the weather allows, it's a 1925 model T roadster complete with an original engine and drive line , the three pedal-hand throttle arrangement take a bit of time to master but as for smiles per miles it is a corker , I have just fitted period wire wheels and now adding a few period extras , the interior and hood are yet to be finished , it certainly puts smiles on other peoples faces

might know him or of him, i know a few Scott's Rodders and spent the weekend with them at the VHRA Pendine sands hot rod racing last year, brilliant time was had, hopefully racing there this year myself but not with the Model T I might add lol

Gave it a 998 engine with +40 rebore to 1014cc, flat top pistons, 948 rally cam + hi-lift rockers, 12G295 Cooper head with gas flow + skim, uprated 1/4 Cooper SU carbs or ex Datsun 240Z 1.5" SU copy, RC40 complete racing exhaust & LCB manifold, Burgess shocks all round. Minifin drums. And so much more. It would pull 106 mph (according to the rev counter on the 3.44 to 1 diff), which may not sound much these days, but the acceleration was great. Used to blow the old XR2s/XR3s and Golf GTis into the weeds and was absolutely the best handing motor I've ever come across.......

(oh, and I resprayed it Ferrari red :))

This weekend I am driving my Discovery 3 again. To France. With a trailer - even though our house sale fell through again. This afternoon I thought I'd better do a quick test drive. The led indicator lights on the trailer work fine when they are supposed to but twinkle like Christmas tree lights when they should be nice and quiet. Foolishly I cursed the recently acquired trailer. Long experience with the brand should have told me otherwise. There is a constant 10.2v on both indicator pins on the trailer socket on the car.

Oh sorry - I mentioned Discovery 3 but forgot to say which marque. By now you will have remembered. Yes, its a bloody Land Rover :steam:

thats landrover for you, I have owned landrovers for the last 27 years on and off , things fall off or break frequently and they always leave a puddle of oil on the drive , my nephew has just bought one of the last defenders to be made and it has already letting the rain in the front footwell , but I just love them

Proved as Problematic to drive though as it garnered unwanted attentions.. from the most frightening members of society..
An unsettling view of the underbelly.
Humans can be very unimpressive creatures.
Curiously IMO/experiences.. one needed to be either a fool or very brave to race in one.
Single use brakes .. really! (terminal Fade) and the unrestrained rear axle made for interesting Adventures.
Miss it as an object, certainly Not as a vehicle

I used to race in the minicross championship back in the 850cc days and a mate of mine wanted to get into racing so he bought an 850 mini from a bloke in Knatts Valley near Brands Hatch. We went there in his then new Mk 1 Golf GTI and I was to drive the mini back. He was astounded when his new hot hatch could not keep up with a bog standard 850 mini in the Kent country lanes and wanted to know if it had been tuned up. I told him that he'd bought a pile of shit which he took to be a comment about the mini but I'll never forget the look on his face when I told him I was talking about the Golf.:D

I test drove one years ago. Nearly lost control of the rear end in the wet. Zero traction control.

Be careful in it.

Only moves above 6000 rpm, but when you get there it does yift!:)

The old hifi has taken a bit of a back burner lately due to this , been spending my time getting this built and ready , it's a 1928 Ford model A roadster pickup fitted with a 2 litre black top Zetec engine , got it fired up and running on Wednesday night 1st of June went around the block a couple of times to check brakes and steering , loaded it up on my trailer and took it to Pendine Uploaded it and raced it on the sands Saturday and Sunday at the VHRA (Vintage hot rod association) annual races ....grin fracture was emence and achieved 85 mph as my best pass with slipping clutch from a standing start , run up is 1/4 mile then you are timed for a 1/16 with half a mile to slow down , the record currently stands at 117 mph , the sensation of driving flat out on sand that is on the move all the time is like nothing else , it was a great experience and privilege to be able to drive on those halowed grounds

cheers Andy , the car has had a complete nut and bolt rebuild and still retains its original body, the original chassis has been strengthened and boxed, brakes are updated to 40 ford juice brakes and runs a Ford v8 pilot rear axle, the chassis has a 4 inch kick up and 4inch drop front beam with a reversed eye Spring, the rear fenders had to be gently panel beat out to allow the tyre wheel combo to fit under to give it that killer stance...drives like its on rails ,
to be eligible to be in the VHRA and run at Pendine you must run buggie springs, drum brakes and cross ply tyres , I managed to beat a few of the V8 cars for speed , wanted to get in the 100 mph club but there's always next year which will give me time to iron out all the bugs and get some bigger balls lol ....car is now sitting minus its gearbox which is away for rebuild ... chances you take buying on second hand bits off eBay :doh:

Ended up driving it with its noisy gearbox and dodgy clutch all the way from Swansea to a mates in Chertsy straight up the M4 as we had to use my trailer to recover a very famous 33 roadster that broke its torque tube

Car looks fantastic with all the correct classic hot rod period parts Jon but the gearbox issues must be karma for fitting a Zetec and not a vintage block ;)

The pics of your Roadster PU had me digging out my old copies of Drag Racing (later & Hot Rod) magazine from 1965 through to 1970. Used to go to Blackbush and Santa Pod with a schoolfriend and his father who raced an early 60's Chevrolet.

lol about the Zetec , I wanted something that would be fast and a Daily driver without the hassles of a V8 , I originally had a 21 stud flathead to go in it but as I already have flathead powered vehicles I started to think a little out of the box hence the Zetec and type 9 combo so sold the 21 stud on to a mate
cool collection of mags, haven't been to the pod for years .....Shakespeare county has a better vibe shame its future is in doubt due to a new housing scheme , hope to get up there later in the year for the Flathead meltdown

Coincidental. I was thinking of going to Santa Pod this summer too. Not been for about twenty years. I used to go two or three times a year.

I saw Sammy Miller there in his rocket car Vanishing Point, setting his world record 386 mph in 3.58 seconds in the mid eighties. Nothing prepares you for something like that!

(I also liked going to 'The Fighter Meet' at North Weald. That was a great airshow)

A lot of years ago, 42 now I work it out, I was working in a car stereo dealers and an E type came into one of the bays.
I went to look and apart from the driver there was a white coated chap sat in the passenger seat with an oscilloscope between his knees.

It was all wired up to the engine and I think it was a development platform for the V12 engine :eek:

Rather different on motorbikes. The old Honda CBR 400RR Baby Blade or CB1 400 will whip the rpm needle round to the 14,500 red band in a fraction of a second.

Despite being small, they'd also seriously embarrass a V12 E Type for acceleration :).

Ooh, I don't know? Seemed pretty cool to me one time keeping up with a Ferrari F40 that was really trying, all the way up to an indicated 125mph on a dinky little bike. I shut the throttle and slowed 'cos that was quick enough. He kept on going. I was pulling around 14,000 rpm in top anyway.

Well just a few words in reply... If I want pace I use the XKR over 400bhp in an Ali body I'll give most bikes a run especially once we get over the 130 mark..:eyebrows:
If I want grace then the E says it all.. Plus after 50 years it will still shock a few hot hatches... Except when it comes to a corner or stopping :eek:
But I guess also how many bikes are worth over 50k when they reach 50 years old..? :ner:
Ps miles a straight 6 4.2 S1 proper E not one of them there V12 fat cats... :lolsign:

My dad used to have a Jag 4.2 straight 6 if memory serves. was a nice motor... not an e type though, but a limo type. Could still motor though

I rather like the E type V12. My brother had the DHC when it came out. Very pretty in silver, with white soft top, chrome wires and whitebanded tyres.

Only had three Jags. Many, many years ago, a 4.2 XJ6 and many more years before that (sixties), a 2.4 Mk.1 and a rare 3.4 Mk.1 auto.

I don't care that much about motors these days. Used to be potty about them (and bikes). As long as I get around 60mpg and can do motorway work OK, I'm happy.

I had a dark brown 3.8 Mk 2, it was brown because of rust, and the other fault was when one pulled on the choke cable the fuel tank emptied.
