Hi All,

Well here we go again, our first open day of 2016 and as ever I am really looking forward to this one, Spendor have supported HiFi Lounge since we launched in 2012 so it is great to be having our first Spendor Open Day on March 5th at long last.

Spendor have been making speakers since the 1960′s, founded by Spencer and Dorothy Hughes, known for designing and making their own drive units in house, not modifying off the shelf units as many others do, with classics like the BC1 and the LS3/5a behind them they really do not need any introduction in the world of HiFi.

As much as I love the A5R and A6R it is the D7 that really caught my attention, this is a truly great speaker and I don’t know of many sub £5000 speakers that can get close to how the D7 portrays music, open, fast, great mid range with a tight, punchy bottom end, this is a speaker that will lend itself to all kinds of genres.

Now I can’t really say much at the moment but on our open day we will have a brand new speaker on demo from Spendor, it is something I have been waiting a long time for and am really quite excited, it will have it’s first showing at the Bristol HiFi Show late February then it will be winging it’s way here for its first airing outside of a show so you can have a proper listen away from a show, obviously I can say more once Bristol is up and running, but I can’t wait to hear this speaker, it promises to be extremely good.

We will be running this new speaker on our Naim system upstairs, either the NAC-N 272 / NAP 300 combination or the NAC 252 / NDS/555 / NAP 300 rig, either way it should sound excellent. Downstairs we will run the A6R’s on a Naim SuperUniti, so it will be a bit of a Spendor/Naim day.

Rob from Spendor will be on hand to help run the day and answer any questions and as ever there will be refreshment throughout the day so please feel free to come in to hear what I think is going to be possibly the biggest speaker launch of 2016, no pressure Spendor :-)

Hope to see you on March 5th,

Cheers,

Yep, Spendor are livening up their act after some years pre takeover (1990's) of lush sounding boxes.

I like the D7 very much and the current designer has worked very hard to bring the products more into modern thinking. I've heard about other new products including an eye wateringly expensive huge 'Marco Box' to really set the trousers flapping (and other body parts too I suspect ;))

Hope the day goes well for you.

P.S. On a different note, it IS good to see Spendor's fortunes are stabilising and growing again after a few years in the doldrums. I do hope it continues for them as they and their distant ancestral relatives 'darn sarf' seem to be doing really well at the moment.

Thanks Dave, yes I found the D7 to be a refreshing re-direction for Spendor so really looking forward to this new product ;-)

Hi all,

Now that the Bristol HiFi Show is done and dusted I can actually let everyone know what the new speaker from Spendor that we will be showcasing at this Saturdays Spendor open day will actually be the new D9, some of you who went to Bristol probably got a chance to see and hear it, if so what was it like? All I could find was the picture below, looking good though :-)

http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/rr109/Mikawen/Open%20Days/Screen%20Shot%202016-02-29%20at%2009.09.51_zpscbjizdjj.png (http://s474.photobucket.com/user/Mikawen/media/Open%20Days/Screen%20Shot%202016-02-29%20at%2009.09.51_zpscbjizdjj.png.html)

As I mentioned before I love the D7, it really is a cracking speaker and it seems like ages now that I have been waiting for a D9 so it is great that there is only a few days left now before I get a chance to hear it.

So this Saturday’s open day will be the first airing of this new speaker from Spendor outside of a HiFi Show so it will be a great opportunity to have a real listen, as far as I know it will be priced at around £6000 so it is going to go head to head with the PMC Twenty.26 so that could be a bloody battle :-)

So please feel free to come along for a listen on Saturday, we will be running them on our Naim 252/SuperCap/NDS/555/NAP 300 system and Rob from Spendor will be here to help run the day.

As ever refreshments will be available throughout the day, hope to see you on Saturday.

Cheers,

Paul.

really wanted to hear these and D7s even more...did not happen even after multiple attempts and asking numerous times...politics behind decided different and pushed other brand instead...
And they messed with A6R too as they hook it to Cyrus which was an disaster for my and I believe for many other ears...dont hook Spendor to Cyrus, ever

That's a shame, the D9's sound gorgeous on our Naim 252/NDS/300 rig I have to say, really impressed, particularly the vocals.
