Switched from a conventional LPG boiler to an Air Source heat pump last July. Its looking very promising so far my electric bill for the heat pump is £450 above my normal electric bill - LPG was costing between £1500 - £2000 and the heating is on 24 hours a day rather than in fits and starts with the conventional system.

So, is the next step a wind turbine or solar panels to reduce your electricity bills?

I don't have enough land for a viable turbine although its certainly windy enough.

I fitted PV panels 4 years ago taking the benefit of maximum government feed in tariff payments for the panels.

Renewable Heat Incentive payments will virtually pay for the Air source heat pump installation costs over a 7 year period.

I am hopeful the PV payments will cover the increased electricity bill for the ASHP.

If my plans work out and its looking to be on target at the moment then my annual energy bills will be reduced from 2k - 2.3k per annum down to maybe £300 per annum.

Air Source Heat pumps are not for everybody though, and are generally not thought to be beneficial if you are on the natural gas network.

I re-discovered 'wrapping up warm'. Power cost is down to £80/month.
