Hmm - it's a big question when you start thinking about it...
off the top of my head-
1. The Sopranos - so far ahead of everything that has gone before, especially quality of the performances and the production values.
2. Hill Street Blues - the previous benchmark IMHO...
3. The Prisoner - took chances and forced the viewer to think (or switch channel...)
4. Any of Steve Coogans stuff (Paul Calf, Partridge, Saxondale etc.)
Andre - Space 1999 - loved it when I was ten but watched it all again quite recently and the second series in particular is shockingly poor...It's depressing to re-watch this stuff 30 years on and realise how much one's young imagination was filling in the blanks - Blakes 7 and Star Trek are good examples of that. They were more than the sum of their parts only because the characters were good - the storylines were almost always lame and the production values universally poor.

I remember most of it, which ranges from the good to the supremely awful. However I watched almost no TV in the late 70s/early 80s, so haven't heard of some you list, eg Longstreet.

I really liked Logan's run and blake's 7. Plus of course The hitch hikers guide to the galaxy and too many others to mention..
Whereas now, 'Love Thy Neighbour' would be banned!

Brian Blessed is amazing in that episode. Season 1 is vastly better than season 2.
I only saw Logan's Run recently, when the Sci-Fi channel repeated it...missed it first time round. It reminded me a bit of The Fantastic Journey anyone remember that short lived series ?

Those are current shows I like.
I watch them on a Monday night 9 till 11 and Tuesday 8 till 9 and if Defying Gravity grabs me I will watch it too on a Thursday night.
The thing I hate about a lot of new American shows is they get the chop before they get finished. Several interesting Sci_fi shows in the last few years got stopped to soon Invasion Earth, Invasion, Surface and Odyssey 5 (now that was a clever show)

I was actually in a "Tales of the Unexpected" - (they were produced by Anglia TV, which was based in Norwich where I grew up.) I was about 11 I think, it was August, and I "starred" in an episode called "The Party" alongside (!) Robert Morley. I was a carol singer, and dressed up in woolly hat, scarf, duffel coat (in August!) and the city centre shops had all been decorated like Christmas- can't remember what carol we sang, but we were all outside the place where the party was supposed to be taking place, when it burst into flames. I was on screen for about 5 seconds - my dad referred to me as "the famous back of the head"!

At number 4, the music that rocked my teenage world: Snub-TV, The Chart Show (indie Chart weeks), Wired.

Rocket Man sucked - that's why you don't remember it - but it was on with all those other shows - in fact as I remember they put all the same stuff on every holiday - if the schools were 'in' there was no TV before about 11 a.m.

Actually I quite fancied Kelly who was the 'baddie' for a while - I recall some of the cast did a UK tour as the show was so popular in the UK (ten years after it finished in Oz) - they actually did an appeareance at a bingo hall in the town I was living in at the time (I didn't go, though).

Did anyone see 'Steel Collar Man' - it was on one holiday when the cricket ended early and they didn't have anything else to show. The intro alone goes some way to explain why the pilot didn't go anywhere. There was a hilarious bit where he wrestled a shark and threw it a few hundred yards up the beach...

Amazingly it seems quite normal and accepted in certain European countries France/Italy to have a mistress (I assume you mean this in the normal context and not some BDSM way ;):lol:)....assuming thats true and not some stereotypical English man/womans fantasy...envy.

Mistresses - a compelling chick-flick TV drama that was good fun to watch with your partner and discuss the incredible situations they found themselves in. In some of the cases, I could speak from experience...
