View Full Version : Sonic boom: why clubs are cranking up the quality instead of the volume
http://www.theguardian.com/music/2016/jan/07/spiritland-brilliant-corners-london-audiophile-bars
I was reading about Brilliant Corners' just the other day. An interesting development even if it does seem to be confined to the trendy bits of London at the moment, I'd like to see it spread.
Don't know why they always get someone who knows nothing about audio to write these pieces, though. I'd put red pen through whole chunks of that.
in a complete 180 degree...I remember seeing ACE OF SPADES, a motorhead tribute band in the running horse, Nottingham, a few years back.
the runner is..was, a tiny streetcorner pub with a playing area about the size of a large lounge.
the guitarist had two full blown marshall stacks with two hundred watt heads powering each.
the bassist had two ampeg stacks with matching heads and the drummer was positioned in a small gap between.
the drummer had to crawl through his kit...there was NO room left.
without doubt the loudest thing I have ever heard......once saw a blackbird at raf mildenhall in the 90s and it was no contest!!
spoke like a dalek the following day and could still hear ringing the following night.
these days I bitch at the volume of the wife's hoover.

You bought your wife a hoover? St Valentine's day come early?

Replace it with a Miele - it's much quieter and just as good, if not better, than any Hoover (or Dyson, come to think of it)!
or better still, instruct her to do it when your at the pub ;)
Miele are unquestionably *the* best manufacturer of domestic appliances, bar none. Trust me, I used to sell the stuff (when I worked in retail). You simply can't beat German engineering at its best! :exactly:

...and promise her a jump afterwards - *if* she's a good girl! :D

Lol no, white goods, actually! Hence why, washing machines, fridges, dish washers, etc, are mostly white (or at least they were in the 80s when I sold them) :)
Vacuum cleaners (those from Miele, Bosch, etc) were sold in the same department, as indeed was the hi-fi stuff....
Marco.
I couldnt sell whisky to the indians :D

Face palm, tired, had a long day. Yes its white goods, not brown. Weird that the HiFi was sold in the same dept, that is Brown Goods.
Yeah, but it was at the other end of the department, which was just simply called: 'The electrical department'. Had some good times there and I made a not an insignificant amount of commission, too! ;)

White goods? So that would be a pearl necklace for the good lady.... if she's done the cleaning to the required standard...
I think the appropriate response to that is "Honi soit qui mal y pense". :eyebrows:

Whatever could you mean? Why in these days of equality I'm sure it's ok for even the most refined lady to enjoy a portion of gentleman's relish :eyebrows:
