Quadrennium On Having HI-FI Sat About & Advice Please

Hello Guys & Girls

I will start buy saying the collection has somewhat expanded quite rapidly over the last couple of months :eek:.

Here's my question i really dont like having HI-FI sat around doing nothing so i have to limit myself to what system i use weekly thus still using the main sig system what do you guys do when you have x amount of HI-FI sat about accumulating dust i do try to use it all but sometimes it's just not possible. I have been buying & selling at present but i seem to be spending what i am supposed to be saving..:doh:

Any Advice on this subject?

Unless you are happy storing stuff, the you need to decide on your top system, and your back ups. then be ruthless and buy boxes and flog what you dont need... you will then have more money to buy even more gear ;) .. same with everything when space and money are limited.:D I say boxes as you are kinda out of the way a bit like me

I know exactly where you're at. For some reason you simply can't connect 10 amps, 5 CDP's, 4 TT's, 6 pairs of speakers and an unknown quantity of cables, interconnects, stands, tins of snake oil and sachets of Foo into one mahoosive mega super Hi Fi system..........:confused:


Much the same as you can't play all 300 of your absolute favourite albums at the same time....

My solution is buy more shelving so you can store everything neatly, then box-swop, buy and sell to your hearts content. If kit is stored neatly on shelves, then even if you can't actually listen to/play said bit of kit you can at least still look and touch...I have been disturbed a few times while holding, examining, or even stroking some bits of kit that were on the "Subs Bench"... My family isn't concerned for my sanity, honestly.......

Oh, and store the latest arrivals somewhere off-piste so that when you DO hook up a new bit of kit you can honestly say "What, this old thing? I bought it ages ago, and just thought I'd give it a try...."


The next thing I want to know is how the flipping heck do you convince SWMBO that buying and liking a bit of kit does NOT equate to a lifelong marital commitment where you vow before the Almighty that you will never listen to or even think about buying another piece of kit "Till death do us part..."

Simple - I book a stall at the Tonbridge Audiojumble and sell some of it! Doing this twice a year is the only thing that stops me from having a house completely full to the rafters with hi-fi. (Well, that and "gentle encouragement" from Mrs. B...:()

Hi Guys

I have sold what i wanted and kept what i love the sound of :) i think i am at happy medium so far.

I think i will set up the Quantum with the Genexxa LX5 Pro speakers later on for a session sure does boogie this tiny system..:cool:

I've set up three separate systems in different rooms and also rotate kit, e.g. valves in the winter, non-valve amps in the hotter months, and even hybrid amps in between. Of course if you have even more hi-fi than can be accommodated through this then you probably need to downsize.
