Cagey, I have a sainsburys DVD player at the bottom that's in there temporarily. I only have maybe 10 CDS and they'll go when my Streamer arrives and I go to FLAC.

Yes Roy, just some MDF and a bit of pine. I'll be upgrading soon to aluminium legs, marine ply top and isolation feet. Hopefully !

Thanks Marco, I followed Geoff's suggestions. He is very convincing. He's right too. Sounds great to my ear and will hopefully be better when I get the Acutex 410e on it. Also rewired the spare wand tonight too. I'll put a thread up about that though [emoji3]

I've had mine for years. It's a great combo. Certainly good enough to use with £1000 cartridges.

Looks decent. Hope it's not too heavy, you don't want to put a strain on that precious main bearing (have you lubed it?).

I've found the effects of a record weight more evident on DD turntables for some reason. Dunno why.

This one has the compliant counterweight and still has the knurled nut, which I understand is a rarity. Be interesting to compare the two. Has a full set of paddles too, as well as the counterweights, only had one with the first arm.

Some like to use the damping with the paddle just touching the top of the fluid. I prefer to immerse it. Don't forget, you can thin the fluid to alter the viscosity. At a guess, I'd suspect the M75EJII may benefit. It's of medium compliance and has quite a lively nature compared to the higher compliance Shures.

If you can get a piece of heavy mains wiring cable. You should find the solid copper cores are about 1.5mm thick. Just about right for a thin paddle. You can make one by bending with narrow nosed pliers. Just match the profile to the existing paddle.

Ok, but there are a couple of things.

A) We don't know the viscosity of the original fluid.
B) Modern carts generally have different compliancy to those that were around when this arm were designed.

Borh of which will alter the sound from this arm.

The original fluid which came with my first 774 was pretty viscous.

Even with older carts, the required damping (if any) was down to experimentation. I wouldn't have used it with say a Shure M75EDII, but found a little bit useful with ADCs strangely. Deccas definitely benefit, as do most MCs. Modern MMs? Try it and see I'd say, but many may not require it.

I notice there's no picture showing the top of the headblock (deliberately?). I suspect it's been drilled through. Seeing as a non standard finger lift is included with two longish bolts that have nuts on.

This would not make the arm less usable, but it makes it non standard and the purists would not be happy receiving one like it.

One of my wands was drilled like this by me 'cos the threads were rather tired and it made it easier to use with some carts.

That's a great spot. I hadn't even noticed. Exact reason I didn't drill trough min is because I didn't want to ruin it's original styling. Glad I didn't too. It led me to the acutex.
