Just bought one of these to replace my ipod. My ipod is ageing and I was looking at stripping the HD out of it and fitting a dual xd card plug-in board instead. It would need a new screen, and front and rear case which would have been knocking on the door of £300 all in, not including XD cards for storage, of which I need 250gig for everything in my library.

Enter the Ibasso DX80, dual XDHC card slots, upto 2TB, 192/24bit as standard and 128 DSD, spdif and optical out, XMOS usb input with Thesycon driver and 13 hour battery life. Under £300. Bonus.

I have absolutely no idea how it sounds, should be here mid-week. New pair of Sony MDR 800-ST winging their way to me as well.

Gotta have good music on the bike....

That sounds like a really nice piece of kit, and perhaps linked upto somthing like a Caiman II DAC could sound awesome for anyone wanting to add file based playback to there system. TEMPTED!

I've been running the previous gen DX50 for about a year now and it's given fautless performance when I'm out travelling through work and iBasso are still releasing new firmwares for it. I have three 64GB microSD cards packed with hours of different music. My [Rockbox'd] iPod Video never got a look in after it got it.

The DX80 should be a marked upgrade in sonic enjoyment.

I've been using an Ibasso DX90 for about six months as my mobile solution, and I'm really pleased with it. On the move, I use it with HiFiMan RE-600 Songbird IEM Earphones (http://www.advancedmp3players.co.uk/shop/Headphones.6/HiFiMan.418/RE-600/HiFiMan_RE-600_Songbird_IEM_Earphones.14283.html) and this is by far and away the best mobile set up I've owned.

Recently I've been working away from home and I've been using the DX90 as a source for a Chord Mojo with AKG K-701 headphones, and the result is a very enjoyable portable hi-fi solution.

Yeh I'm running 200 gig for my main library and a 64 gig for my limited HD selection.

I have to say at first I was underwhelmed by the sound of it. In combo with new Sony mdr ex 800's it was a bit sharp and uneven. After a few weeks though it's settled right in, sound is very good, as good as my old Sony nw player from 2007 which was very good.

Apart from the occasional thump when swapping between cd and HD files it's perfect.

I'd call that dodgy advertising, to state 2TB based on the hope/guess that one day someone may invent a 1TB SDXC...there may be a physical limit to this type of storage technology...I've just had a sandisk 128GB fail after only 2 years of use, the current 200GB is cutting edge...:eyebrows:
