A Query! Any opinions on compact separates.

Hi all,

May I tap into your collective knowledge?

A few of you may have seen my recent posts about the flooding in our home that destroyed most of my gear. Anyhow I'm trying to rebuild around the few bits I have left which are as follows;

Beresford Capella
Beresford Bushmaster II
Topping TP60
Boston Acoustics A25 ( will probably upgrade these in time).

Given that my remaining devices are "compact" I'm considering going down the "micro" route as opposed to full size.
I can complete my new system for about €800 with the following;

Pro-ject Phono Box S ( for my Pioneer PL-300 vintage TT) http://www.box-designs.com/main.php?prod=phonoboxs&cat=phono&lang=en

All of these can fit in here nicely and sit comfortably with my other micro units http://www.box-designs.com/main.php?prod=designboxacryl24&cat=racks&lang=en


I like aesthetics but I also need good quality SQ though I wouldn't call myself an audiophile.

So, do people think I will sacrifice SQ with this line of gear over a much, much wider choice of full sized separates to choose from in the same price range?

Opinions would be gratefully received.

this is half size, and their stuff is pretty good' save yourself some cash tboot and spend it perhaps where its more needed

I use a Pro-ject CD Box S as I wanted something to fit into a small space and, AFAIK, it's the smallest 'proper' CD player you can buy. I run it into a Beresford CaimanII. Very pleased with the sound quality and build, it's very solidly built for such a small unit. I was a bit sceptical of the slot loading mechanism, never used one before, but it works fine. Fits perfectly on top of the Caiman too :)

i had a project cd box s for a while,not keen on the slot loading thing,other than that it was a cracking bit of kit:)

+1 on the Teac. The 500 reference series is cracking little kit.

I have a matching Teac A-H300 integrated amp going spare (and cheap) - if you are interested PM me :)
Has a built-in phono stage.

IMO the Project Boxs aren't up to much. For small size, try Rega Brio-r, Apollo-r, DAC-r.

Thanks for the offer and I would be interested if I didn't already have an amp. Let Brigadoon deal with you for the amp as he's so keen. I'm going to go with the suggestions around the Teac reference series, I didn't know such items even existed. Thanks to all for the tips so far.

I know it's not from the 500 series but it gets good reviews from users on the net.
Also, it fits in with my current gear which is all black.
If only I could find a black cassette player from the same reference series!!!!!!!!!!! I'm still a big fan of cassette,
