Claymore 2

Hi,

This arrived today, I already have the last incarnation of the Claymore integrated but when I saw this one for sale I thought I'd give it a try.

Very good condition, with one annoying mark right on the fascia that let's the metal show through, a little permanent marker had covered it up for just now.

So, how does it sound?

Excellent, not as clean as my TQ version, but then again that retailed at just under £4000, I think the Mark 2 was under £200 when new lol.

Plenty of power ( this is the 100w version ), a little thicker in the bass, not as refined perhaps but all in all I'm pretty happy with it.

It will no doubt be needing a service, so I might arrange that at some time.

Thanks, sounding very good, but I'm not sure if the dip switches for the phono input are set correct as the phono input is very muffled, the volume is there, so I'm assuming it's set to MM correctly just unsure if the other switches are correct.

Anyone help as to what they should be set to.

Emailed him yesterday about a service and upgrade, he wasn't sure about the phono setting but I worked it out myself.

I've put the TQ Claymore back in and it's definitely superior, however one thing the Version 2 let me hear was that my PMC speakers were driven better with the older amp than the TQ one, sound quality wasn't as good, but you could tell that the 100w's of the older amp got the speakers going better than the 72w's of the newer version.

So all I need now is an amp that sounds as good, if not better than the TQ Claymore, but with more power.

This one came up on eBay, no idea if right price but wasn't expensive and I wanted to try it in comparison with my TQ one.

It's with Colin just now being serviced and upgraded so think it will sound even better once back.

It really worked well with my PMC 21's and I've just changed the HiFi to the other end of the room and that has helped immensely as the speakers were sat at either side of a large leather sofa which crippled the soundstage and the ability to fill the room, now it's superb.

The Claymore 2 will fill the room even more, so I'm considering selling the TQ and buying a decent phono stage to match my new Zu Denon 103 and the Claymore 2.

No problem, I was more concerned for you than the amp, I had a sneaky feeling you were floored again. Don't stress over the amp anytime will do.
