A friend needs advice on which Pre-amp to use with his Denon 103 cartridge (on a Technics deck, I think).
Uses a NAD C370 amp that -i just looked it up - only has line inputs. So, to me, that means an SUT is not sufficient, it'll need a proper Pre-amp?
I know there are a few 103 aficionados on here, so all ideas gratefully received!
It's been a while since I looked at LP stuff (though my Rock still sits here unused!)
Thanks. Chris in Bristol

What's the budget?

Hi Chris,

Yes a phono stage is going to come in rather handy! ;)

Lol... Anyway, as Geoff says, what's his budget? The problem he's got is that although a 103 isn't expensive to buy, it's not particularly cheap to optimise, and thus hear what it's truly capable of.

At the budget end of things, you can probably forget about SUTs, as you'll also have to factor in the cost of an MM phono stage. Therefore, an active/standalone MC phono stage is probably the way to go, unless your friend has got more than, say, £500/600 to spend :)

Marco.
