Hello Art of Sound,
I've joined this site to find out about maintaining and servicing vintage Marantz separates and upgrades for a Technics SL-1210mk2.
I currently own a late 70's Marantz 300DC amp, 3650 preamp, 2130 tuner and 5030B cassette deck. The 300DC and 3650 has had a bit of work done (recapped and serviced) but the 2130 is original and the 5030B has just had the drive motor replaced.
I also have the Marantz Esotec SM7 amp, SC7 preamp, ST7 tuner and a PMD351 CD/cassette deck. All of these separates are original and, whilst they all work, they need a bit of TLC.
I've been lucky enough to track down the original Marantz RM-3100 racks to mount everything in.
The Technics SL-1210mk2 is a 2006 model, in very good condition, and I've just bought a SME 309 tonearm for it. I've got a few Mike New goodies on order and now I'm trying to work out with external PSU to get.
I'm looking forward to learning about what I need to do upgrade/service/maintain all theses toys.
Cheers, Scott

Hi Scott

Welcome to AoS

Any chance of a picture of your Marantz S Series kit and the rack?

Hi Macca,
Here's a photo of each rack. The 5030b is in the shop. I'm primarily using the Esotec system at the moment.
What is "Marantz S Series" referring to? I haven't heard it said this way before.

As in all the model designations start with 'S'

I don't know if that is the official name but it is what I call it ;)

Oh wow - :respect:

Amazing - I love vintage Marantz gear and have a 4230 quad receiver and 5020 cassette tape deck. ... but the repair guy who checked out and serviced the kit is in the UK, so not much use for you in Oz!

Hi Scott. Welcome to AOS.

As you are probably aware the SL-1210 is catered for in the Techiepedia section.

As for the Marantz gear. You could start threads in either the Past Masters section or Blank Canvas area.

I'm sure you'd get plenty of replies.

Enjoy the forum,
Geoff.

About the S?

The components are called Marantz Esoteric SM7 amp, SC7 preamp, ST7 tuner - Hence I referred to them as the 'S' series.

They are JBL L100. I bought the repo grilles off eBay to go with the vintage look.

Nice one. I've always loved those grills.
