For sale, one of my NJC Reference Series Phono Preamplifiers. All the details of this superb unit are on the NJC website:

http://www.njc-audio.co.uk/html/phonopreamp.html

So what can I say about this unit? Well, I have tried phono stages in the c. £100 to £800 price bracket from many of the major manufacturers. Nothing sounded quite right to my ears until I chanced upon NJC Audio. The others seemed either slightly coloured (warm), muffled and even the best sounded just slightly veiled. Some (including those from famous manufacturers) were noisy or suffered from interference. Some of the cheaper ones were just plain nasty - harsh and aggressive.

I was giving up until, through a contact, I chanced upon NJC Audio, a small outfit in the West Country who make just the most beautiful stuff including this little gem. It just ticks all the boxes. It is SUPERBLY made with PERSONAL CARE (NJC send a calibration certificate for each unit). It looks beautiful, well to my eyes anyway :-) It works perfectly - no buzzing noises, no hiss, no interference. However, most importantly, it sounds AMAZING, well it does to my ears anyway. It just sounds right - neutral, transparent and never gets in the way of the music.

I'm only selling because I have two of these units (plus NJC's DAC and Headphone Amplifier) and I'm downsizing to just one turntable set up (hence my Rega sales which are subject of a separate thread).

These NJC Audio phono stages have quite a few features. Most useful is a gain switch which has three settings (high/medium/low) allowing the perfect setting to be obtained for MM and high output MC cartridges. There is a switch which allows selectable input impedance between 47 and 75 Kohms. There is also a dial on the front which allows variable capacitance cartridge loading. NJC also now manufacture a separate SUT if you want to use low output MC cartridges. The unit comes with it's own hand built bespoke power supply unit so no further expense with upgrades.

The unit was purchased in April 2014 and is in perfect condition. This one has been barely used. It comes with original box, instruction manual, calibration certificate and receipt. This one is Serial No 031.

The units retail for £495 and I'm asking £295 plus postage.

Cheers

Phil

That's a lovely little thing, Phil. Superb quality from a small British manufacturer. I smell high SPPV.... ;)

Good luck with the sale. I suspect that some lucky person is going to end up with a REAL bargain!

Marco.

Thanks Marco, it sold in 5 minutes :)

I would, however, recommend NJC to any AoS member. Quite unbelievable quality and value for money and the personal service you get from the two guys there (Nick and Richard) is second to none (one does the electrical stuff, the other the machining and casework). Each unit is personally made for you.

I should stress, in case anyone is wondering, that I have no personal connection with NJC or any audio manufacturer - I'm just a very happy NJC customer and champion them at every opportunity.

If only my Rega decks sold as fast - yes, that's a very unsubtle nudge :)

Cheers

Phil
