Harbeth SHL5 loudspeakers in Cherry.
(includes FREE Something Solid custom stands)

http://i173.photobucket.com/albums/w63/greatgig/DSCF1165_zpswxck44d2.jpg

I am selling my Harbeth SHL5 loudspeakers in Cherry - mint with original boxes.

This is a very reluctant sale, but I'm moving overseas for 3/4 years and cannot take them with me and it's not economic to put them into long term storage. I will be very sad to see these go and they are without doubt the best loudspeakers I have ever owned. These were purchased just over 4 years ago and are in mint condition and the Cherry wood has seasoned nicely to a beautifully rich colour, they have always been kept out of direct sunlight and not driven hard. They have been treated with every respect and you won't be disappointed if you are a lover of the BBC/Harbeth sound.

I have the original shipping boxes and also the certificate of ownership and manual - pretty much as new and nicely run in for you :)

They have custom made Something Solid stands which were made exclusively for these speakers and I will include them FREE in the sale. I make this proviso as this is a collection only sale to also include the stands when collected. These are spiked adjustable speaker stands and the spikes have been removed and can be seen in the picture attached to the left hand stand.

This sale is collection only, I'm not really happy to trust to a courier for collection and if I did it wouldn't include the stands, as I cannot ship those - collection from the BH22 area in Dorset (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Ferndown+BH22/@50.8046155,-1.9199948,13z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x48739807e39fd90f:0xd930c ff4e546aef6?hl=en). Please make contact after the sale to arrange a suitable time for collection and for this sale I would prefer cash on collection please - many thanks.

If you would like a phone number to discuss this sale, please send a PM - if you are serious about buying them but cannot collect, we could possibly discuss a courier.

I am very reluctant to ship these, however, if you wish to arrange your own courier, this will be entirely at the buyers risk and you must arrange this yourself with suitable insurance. I will supply a pickup address and cleared payment in full will need to be settled before I release them to a courier.

NB: If you arrange you own courier it will not include the stands, as I cannot ship these, so please be mindful of this - I have no suitable packing materials so no collection, no stands I'm afraid. So best bet will be to collect. The stands complete the package making it worth the journey I reckon and no sweaty palms waiting for a courier to hopefully get them to you undamaged ;)

From a pet and smoke free home at Captain Tidy towers!

Listed on both ebay and Gumtree at a higher price, but I am offering these to forum members for £1,750.

Their colour is slightly darker in the flesh, the camera flash has lightened them somewhat.

Any questions, just fire away :)

Wow...very nice.

These speakers are smashing.. I've had an identical set with the very same stands and were brilliant.

Someone is in for some serious pleasure out of these.

:trust:

Good luck with the sale, although I really doubt you would need it. :)

Spot on! :)

Absolutely amazing. I have the Harbeth HLM's which are the Grandfather of the SHL5, and these are quite honestly the best speakers I have owned, and rank at the top of the best I have ever heard. Theses are worth every £ and then some.
If you are looking for the last speakers you will want to own, buy these. They are that good!

Sorry if this is a naive question - how do these speakers sound with contemporary music? I've read a bit about them, the 'BBC sound' and so on - and overall I get the impression that they're great if you listen to vocal or classical tracks. What if you listen to dance (e.g. chemical brothers), pop (BTW I have three kids under 8, so you're talking anything from Michael Jackson to Katy Perry) or rock? I do listen to vocal/acoustic stuff too but if you're a family guy who also wants decent hi-fi will these cut it for the range of music that's listened to in our house?
Thanks for honest answers.
Nick
PS: At the moment my amp is an old Cyrus 7 but looking to upgrade that too - something that handles vinyl and digital.

They do everything with equal precision and better than the majority.

There are several 'forum myths' about not going loud, no bass, pipe and slippers, difficult to place in a room etc. All are completely and demonstrably untrue.

I play, for my entertainment, only Blues, Rock and Jazz and I like it loud. I often demonstrate the SHL5s against well known TL speakers famed for their power handling and bass. The Harbeths go louder with better bass. The TLs are 'gargling' and making weird noises where the Harbeths are sweet and clear. So no problems there.

They also are sweet and natural, without the 'saddle' response the majority of modern speakers exhibit. So you get more and are able to listen completely without strain.

They are about as universal a speaker as you could wish for and completely amp friendly.

I don't think so, we never discussed that though, so might be, I'll mention it when he comes tomorrow. Keen music fan though, has a lot of Graham Slee gear and some HD800s.

Haha Al, glad not to have given you a heart attack! They really suit me and will be replaced by more Harbeth's when I come back to the UK. They just sound right to me and I've listened to quite a few speakers over the years.

Personal choice I know, but I like both the brand and the designers ethos.

Who knows Brian, a lot can happen in the time I plan to be away. I have a real love of New Zealand and could quite happily retire there, but you need a substantial amount of financial clout for a retirement visa.

Aye I know what you mean Tim , sometimes I wonder where the time ( and the saving opportunities ) has gone as I get nearer and nearer retirement :D
Although I'm still happy to live in the UK I still wonder where we'll all be in 3-4 years , things change so fast .
