Over Christmas we heard some unexpected deep rumblings that scared my wife and had me searching the house for the cause. I even went up in the loft to check. To cut a long story short it turned out to be the xmas tree lights or more accurately the cheap switch mode power supplies affecting my subwoofer. Since the lights have been removed the subwoofer behaves like it is meant to.
It made me realise that there is a lot of truth in the many critical comments about SMPS. There is still a few in the living room that I will look to replace-the router for one.
