I'm going to regret this, but it's not getting any use and it deserves to be used, and not kept in a cupboard ... so, here goes ...

For sale - immaculate Thorens TD125 in custom-made Russ Collinson plinth. The plinth is more than just the usual 'skirt', being layered/contoured in birch ply to 'wrap around' the turntable. It is veneered in premium Macassar Ebony, and cost around £800 when commissioned by the previous owner (Oldius). The armboard is drilled for (old) Rega arms. There is also a second, unused, armboard (finished in the same veneer), which you can cut to suit your own arm, and a third (black) armboard cut for SME arms.

The turntable itself is in excellent running condition, and has just been fitted with a new Thorens NOS belt. The turntable will also be supplied with another (new) spare belt.

The pictures below show an arm and cartridge... these are NOT included. I can supply a brand new Rega 202 and/or a low-hours Audio Technica 440MLb cartridge if you want a fully working TT (please PM for further details and price).

For sale £550. I have no packaging, and will not risk shipping I'm afraid. Pick up from M1/M6 junction area, or meet/deliver up to 50 miles from Northampton.

Please don't say that, Barry ... 'cos that's my future, innit?

That's a really lovely TT Peter and will fly out the door I'm sure. I'd snap it up if I weren't investing in my TD160. Good luck with the sale.

Cheers

Loz

Oh my, that is nice. Do you have the lid for it or does the new plinth preclude that?

Sorely tempted.

Sorry, Jason, no lid.
The plinth is now a bit bigger than the original in all directions.
Actually, I do have the original Thorens box, but it is now too small for the turntable.

Something I haven't mentioned is that, apart from being rather pretty, it is actually a very good turntable ... very good, indeed.

Is it set for a 9' or 12' arm ?

petrat

9 inch Rega layout on the armboard in the pics.
The SME armboard is 9 inch, too.
And .. there isn't the space to fit a 12 inch arm using the blank board either.

I saw and heard this many times when it belonged to Oldius/Geoff.

It looks and sounds fantastic.

Good luck with your sale Peter

I really would like this, but if you can't take it apart to pack it, to post, then I can't :(

Go on Brian ... you know you really want it! It just loves jazz.
Repatriate it ... it's missing the rain ... :D

Hope things are OK now, btw.

Hi Neil.

Sorry, but it really wouldn't travel well I fear. Once dismantled into plinth, deck and platter, it'd really need quite a large, double box, or even a custom crate. None of which I have access to. The Thorens deck is surprisingly heavy, and could do some serious damage if not packed properly.
Do you know anyone coming over by ferry/car in the near future?

Sadly not. I don't own a car, so I can't come myself. There are days I hate being over here. This was the alternative to some of the vintage decks I was looking at awhile back, so bang on what I was wanting, and yours is a Mk2 as well.... sigh :(

What are its dimensions ? I have a crate here I could send to you. My Moon Andromeda came in it, big crate. I also have a fair bit of packing here, including a dedicated platter shipping box.

You should be able to leave the platter on. just put something over it and the top plate and tape down. some soft wedging between it and top plate. It wont go anywhere, if its needed.

Unless I could pack this myself, which I can't, I will pass.

Best way to ship TT's is take them to pieces and pack each bit to survive WW3, and then pack in another box, as I did with the JBE.

Hi Peter

Will the Rega drilled armboard take an RB 303?
Thanks
Nikos

Part of the challenge is that the shape of the plinth, with those 90 degree corners being so vulnerable where the veneers meet.
I am wary because when I got my Garrard, it was well packed in two giant boxes, and still the plinth was dented on one edge when I unpacked it ... and that had rounded corners.

I would deffo remove the unit from the plinth and pack separate. if you can take the platter off then so much the better but it can be shipped on if care is taken. TBH, weight is the enemy of any package so reducing the package weight by dividing is always best.

As far as I know, the cut-out dimensions (diameter and spindle-pivot distance) haven't changed, just needs the three point fixture holes drilling/screwing. Maybe someone can confirm that?

Peter I understand.

When I worked in the audio trade packing was one of my jobs, I can pack to survive WW3, but I am over the top with this and go to lengths that most folks would not.

Its fine, I would hate for this to get wrecked, so consider my interest withdrawn.

Forgot to show that it is stands on a nice set of gold isolating cones and disks ... which have screw threads for levelling.

Well, if this doesn't sell, then it'll have to be the 401 that goes ...

If you were willing to sell the 401 motor unit and post it ( much easier to do), sell the plinth locally, then I would depending on price, condition, functionality, be interested in the 401. Serious offer, suggestion.

If you don't want to split it, fair enough. My thinking is that I would partner a 401 with an Old Road Audio plinth, which I can get local to me.

If not no worries, I maywell get the next Audio Grail sable 401.
