Not to be confused with the Home Theatre AV32R, this is the stero digital pre-amp version. It keeps all the analogue inputs as such, with no digital conversion, but also has a high quality 24/192kHz DAC on board.
Altogether it has :
6 analogue inputs
3 co-axial digital inputs plus T2L clock sync input
2 optical digital inputs
2 co-axial digital outputs
1 optical output
2 sets of analogue pre-amp outputs
1 fixed level tape output
Very usefully, all the analogue inputs are also available in digital form on the digital outputs, even though they are kept in the analogue domain for pre-amp purposes.
The old reviews mostly seem to have disappeared from the web (at least I can’t find them any more !), but I did find this: http://www.hi-fiworld.co.uk/index.php/olde-worlde/304.html . It was very well regarded in its day, marking the first moves by Tag Mclaren away from just revamping the old Audiolab line-up.
The pre-amp is in excellent condition, with just two small marks on the facia that I’ve tried to shew in the photos. The vacuum display works well, although it shews a little unevenness in intensity. The input displays can be customised. There are comprehensive instructions in the manual.
I am not the first owner, and it must originally have had the DAB module fitted, though this has been at some point removed.
It sounds great, and I am only selling because other changes mean I “need” a preamp with balanced outputs. I had it checked over by Kevin Green at the Audiocellar http://www.theaudiocellar.co.uk/ who is a Tag Mclaren specialist and enthusiast, so it should be problem free.
Original box. Remote control. Mains Lead. Instructions.
£350 plus p&p; a bargain !
