I got these in a job lot and don't know anything about them. They are old Decca Sound System Speakers and the model number is possibly L400. It certainly says L400 on the serial number plate on the back.
They are a two way sealed box design as you can see from the internal shot below.
I've tested them today and all the drive units are working with no apparent distortion at normal levels. Not a huge amount of bass but very nice mid / treble considering their age. There is some minor creasing in the bass unit surrounds but they still seem to work ok.
Cosmetic condition is poor. There is no major damage but the veneer is marked across most of it's surface in one way or another. Having said that, it is real wood so should sand down and re-finish. I would normally do this but thought given their presumed low value, it might be better to leave them 'original' and let the new owner sort them.
The foam behind the grill cloth has gone crunchy.
The only picture I could find on the web (which I can't find now) showed them sat on their sides on funky curved 60s stands (which I don't have).
I've really no idea whether these are cheap and rubbish or rare and valuable so I'll nominally ask sold. They appear to have some quality about them even if they are ancient and in poor condition. Please advise either way if you know this to be way off.
I'm also happy to swap for anything useful such as a cheap amp, turntable or cartridge etc. I can always find a home for turntables in particular.
