So, as the title says, what's your New Years Bottle going to be; that is if you buy one. I always do, even if it doesn't get drunk.....it is a tradition going back into pre history when I was young ;)
This year I have got a bottle of French Vodka; Grey Goose..... I usually try and get something different each year; Hey its only once in a lifetime aint it.
A number of years ago it was a half bottle of Knockeen Hills Poteen at about 80 or 90% by volume.....it has never been opened as I was ill enough that year and Ive not had the courage to try it lol

French vodka though, that's a new one on me! Like the style of the bottle :)
Anyway, New Year's bottle? We've got over a 100 bottles of wine here, mostly the table variety, but also some sparkling/champagne and dessert types (stored on racks), not including a multitude of spirits, port, sherry and aperitifs, so it could be anything! :D

Lol - I know. It represents the contents of our little 'wine cellar', most of it collected from our recent wine-buying trip to France. We go once a year, essentially to buy the best part of a year's supply, baring in mind that out with of the festive period, we only drink about one or two bottles a week, mainly at weekends :)
Anyway, Snapper's visiting next week, so that number will have considerably dwindled after he leaves! :eyebrows: :cheers:

A proper cave is one thing that my main residence lacks.
The holiday/retirement residence has one though, and is well stocked.
A little less well stocked now, after spending a week there. :cocktail:

On the 'big night', as it were, we've got a couple of cheeky bottles of Champers ready, from a small and pretty much unknown specialist producer, which we bought in France, direct from his vineyard. I won't mention the price we paid yet (save to say it wasn't a lot), as I'm hopeful it'll be, at the very minimum, a 'Moet killer', in the slurp-per-pound-value stakes! ;)

Sparking Shiraz is gorgeous, Rob! I always find good 'fizzy red', as it were, rather more interesting than its white counterpart :respect: :cheers:
Have you ever tried proper Lambrusco (Amabile), such as you get in Italy, not the cheap shit you get here, drunk at hen parties? It comes out a deep, dark, purple colour, full of gorgeous red berry flavours. It's amazing stuff - like good alcoholic Ribena!

Luigi Cavalli is the best producer. It's rather sweet though, so best enjoyed with cakes and desserts (particularly with a slice of Panettone), or simply slurped as an aperitif! :)

Some really good stuff for a good price.
New Years is likely to be a quiet affair for us this year, but we are likely to crack open a bottle of champers for the Mrs.
I will stick to a nice glass of Ardbeg.
Always Champagne for us, I usually buy six bottles of something decent but this year it's only the one bottle of Moet given to us as a gift we'll be drinking then it will be cheap proseco or Cava, might have a glass of Lagavullin though seeing as it's an 'occasion'.

Indeed, but you live in France. If we did too, we'd be doing the same thing. That's why we make the effort though, drive there from Wales, and fill the car up with goodies! ;)
The savings you can make, if you're a wine drinker, and enjoy quality stuff, are astronomical... It's also why we don't fly (as you can bring back 'hee-haw' in a suitcase)!!

Nice one... Warres stuff is excellent quality. Lovely with a spot of Stilton/Lanark Blue or mature cheddar, such as Black Bomber, and some oatcakes or Carr's Water Biscuits :)

Also got a present of a bottle of crusted port..... Not tried that before...I take it it will need decanting?
In fact there is a few bottles of booze in my shed that I laid down ...sure there is still some out there. I did drink some but there may be something left. Must try and get out and see lol

The whisky was well seasoned, and that is all that mattered when I opened it.
I like the taste of Grey Goose Grant, however I'm ashamed to say that it makes me a little......erm aggressive. Stollie, Russian Standard, etc no problem, but GG is a no no for me.
I started getting a taste for nice vodka when I worked in Kazakhstan. There are some really nice one over there for about 30bob a bottle.
Try to stay clear of Smirnoff these days as I get indigestion/heartburn with it. Strangely I come from a time when everyone thought Smirnoff was the best, however I now know it's not really. Pretty mediocre for me.
Its surprising how that can happen yet a chemically similar substance doesnt. I used to get that way with Bacardi spice yet was fine with Morgans. Pity as i liked it lol... Dont think they make it as such now so maybe it had some mad juice in it
