Can someone advise me if the following is any good please. I was given this cartridge (along with a few others) from Nigel (VinylSpinner) and I read there quite decent with a replacement jico stylus.

Nigels advice is good imo. I use this stylus on my M 75:

Always quite liked this cartridge, only stopped using one when I got a M95HE, which I only slightly prefer.

The occasional genuine new Shure stylus crops up on eBay USA. The M91ED was excellent too and I believe the styli are interchangeable. I seem to recall running an M75ED fitted with the M91ED stylus (could be wrong though). I think the M93E stylus also fits. A bit of Googling should tell you.

Ok just a quick update.
I've been reading a post for the past few days (http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?40254-Consider-the-dear-ohttpld-Shure-97xe-it-s-%A370!-And-it-s-great)

I hear a lot of people getting great results with the Shure cartridge. As I had one given to me from Nigel (Vinylspinner) I thought I'd give it ago.

I bought myself a Jico SAS from here: http://www.lpgear.com/product/SHN075EDT2SAS.html
It arrive approximately 10 days later with an £11 import dutie charge, it's now fitted and sounding absolutely brilliant.

This really is a great sounding cartridge now and one I will definitely be keeping for a very long time. For anyone considering one I'd say do it, you'll not regret it.

I'm surprised to see the resurgence of interest in cheaper Shure cartridges.... Maybe it's due to the much smaller choice of new carts these days and a bit of nostalgia!?? I'm no fan of them myself. Strange that they were pretty universally disliked for decades and now all of a sudden they are great:eek:
Try an Ortofon VMS20E MkII or much better still a VMS30E MkII for an old cart that still delivers the goods. For abut 20 years the VMS20E MkII was recommended by all the rags and dealers as a replacement upgrade for the Shure (and wasn't much more expensive).

Well I like it, it's my first Shure cartridge and I'm very impressed with it, even now with the New stylus.
