Best way to finish Zebrano wood veneer?

I need help! I've been restoring a pair of Heybrook HB2's. All the hard has been finished I just need to fit new veneer. My question is quite simple. What's the best way to finish Zebrano, is it something like Danish oil or is it better to finish with a good quality high gloss clear varnish?

Wax, or shellac and wax, or oil; not in any order. take your pick. I wouldn't personally put varnish on. Lacquer can be used if you've facilities to spray it.0000 grade wire wool or equ between coats. Oil is nice but is the longest to do.

It's iron on stuff. I like to keep things simple.

The adhesive will likely be polyurethane based then. Wood finishing oils may act as a solvent with it and eventually the veneer could lift. If you've bought the veneer and want to test this. Use a small piece of veneer and apply the oil to the adhesive backing. Leave overnight, then see if the adhesive is going soft or liquifying.

I've often used white french polish on veneer. Gently rub down the veneer with a red scotchbrite pad (minding not to snag and lift edges) then apply the polish following the grain. With a lint free pad and a bit of patience it comes up lovely. If you make a cock up, just wipe the affected panel down with methylated spirit to remove what you've applied, allow to dry and start again. Finish off with a good furniture wax (not aerosol type polish).

Yup thats what I mostly do. shellac of french polish(same thing). use a thin clear sealing one unless u want to change the colour. it needs applying quickly as it drys very quickly. 1 full swipe only on each part with a lint free cotton pad. I use a rubber, which is just cotton with cotton wool inside which is soaked in shellac. squeeze as you swipe over the wood. then a few coats of a nice hard paste wax. buffing inbetween coats.
Other thing which would be easy for you is Minwax...its a wipe on poly varnish...I know, but it does a good job if your not overly experienced and just want it done...it wont react with the glue

here is some info on using iron veneer Andy. i used to use my own glue too so it stayed stuck but not cement as ou only get one chance.. titebond or something like that as extra stick

thanks one and all! I've only done 1 lot of veneer before and thats when I restored some old JR149's, I think there's a thread somewhere on the forum.
