View Full Version : iPhone madness
Hello, Merry Christmas
Right, I'm hoping someone with a bit more savvy than me can help.
Why is it when I try to look at photos from my iphone on my laptop (non apple) they all go into stupid folders with no way of know what photos, or when they were taken. Drives me to madness when I'm looking for a photo to up load etc.
B
Mine puts them initially in groups of date and location . I then if i want put them in the albums i want either on pc or ipad. I have a shared section too.

What version of iPhone do you have and what version of iOS are you on? Mine did this for a while and it was annoying, but after the last update to iOS 9.1 it's gone back to being organised in one folder and by date.

Ah that might be it then. Noticed I have a notification for 9.2 waiting to be installed. Looks like (and I'm not sure if I'm correct) I have 8.4 installed at the moment. I've really got to the stage where I am hesitant to upgrade when I get a notification as it usually causes havoc until Apple come up with the next version to counter act the last one etc. I have a 5s
9.2 has been fine on both my doodas Brian. :)

The havoc normally concerns the deleting of contacts.
Can you not set things to back up to a Google account?

You can back up to icloud... there are settings for it; you may need a pc or mac though initially anyways. not sure ... There are a myriad of setting relating to back ups etc, and can be confusing.

I suspected there might be a similar facility on the fruiterer's side of the street.
aye but he has a iphone I think so might as well use icloud. its integrated and free
Right. It seems that I have to click on 'upload photos and videos' Then it uploads everything to the laptop. Took a while to upload. However, now that I've done that they are all in 'my pictures'.
Any new photos have to do the same. If I don't I get the same multi folders. However, when I 'upload' it only does the new photos so it's quick.
However, this dose not sort the problem all together because if I just want to look at the photos on my phone on another PC.....guess what! Yep I have to upload or look through all the folders to find what I'm looking for. Now doubt I will have to succumb to an icloud account. Grrrrr! Sometimes I wish I never went down the iphone route. The problem now is that I'm used to the interface from Apple and find it very pleasing to use.
I dont think you can sync them, or anything else without it Brian . Its fairly unobtrusive and you get a fair amount for free... enough for most folk I'd think
all my music, films, photos and books including audiobooks are and appear on all my devices... any pics I want to add to a shared folder then others can see. I set up folders on the pc via icloud and photos section, then set all pics to go there automatically from the phone
I've a 50 gig account on iCloud costs 79p a month and I synch my iPhone 5s to my macbook pro wirelessly via iTunes the photos on the macbook are all in Photo and all dated and with locations exactly the same as they are on the phone.
I'm using IOS 8.4 too BTW.
I don't know how it works on a windows pc but even on a Mac it can be tricky importing photos cos they tend to get broken up into what Apple calls events. Each event is a different day, depending on your settings. It gets tricky when you have old photos on your phone cos they import to an event that's way down the screen on the Mac cos, well, they're old, so that can make finding them difficult. Fortunately, there is a default 'last import' folder.
I imagine there's a similar thing going on with the pc and there may be settings to alter the behaviour. You can probably create a folder for 'last import' manually if there is not one there already.

I have been syncing an iPhone for years on Mac and PC and have never had to use an iCloud account and certainly don't want to pay for anything I can get around for free. I'm not acquainted with the latest incarnations of Windows but if I transfer from my phone using Mac I import using 'Photos' and then transfer to a folder where they are simply listed as jpegs - once copied I delete them all from Photos.
I'm sure it can be that simple with Windows as well without getting further entangled in the Apple web.

If you use Photos only to import then may I suggest you use a little known app on your Mac called Image Capture. With that you can import directly to your designated folder.
Think you get 5gb free which is enough for me. Anything i take on phone gets synced to all my devices and pcs plus the cloud where i can sort them out on pc as its easier. Delete what i dont want and put what i do into folders and rest into the shared stuff for anyone i want to see them etc. Music and books too.was listening to a audiobook when in the car today synced off the cloud and through car stereo.. Sounded very good. As good as a cd

Excellent tip - thank you :)
Just tried it - much quicker too ..... and not an iCloud in sight

You're welcome Mike, glad to help.
Well I sussed that they got to my 'pictures' folder. all well and good, but the problem occurs when I try looking at my photos on a different PC. IE work or something. I'll have a think about how I want to work this. TBH I getting fed up with Apple.
