I bought these BBC made monoblocks on a whim but have since picked up a B&O Beomaster 4000 for a nice low price and want to spend money on that as a project .... here is the original description ...
I have for auction Two Mono-Block Amplifiers custom built by ex-BBC staff and specially designed to drive the Spendor LS3/5a speakers. These amps came with a pair of Spendor LS3/5a speakers I recently purchased which were previously installed inside a BBC studio and driven by these Mono-Block amps. My LS3/5a speakers are now connected to my Pioneer receiver, and therefore I have decided to offer these for sale as I have no use for them. I would imagine they would be collectable items for any LS3/5a owner.
As seen in the pictures, they come complete with the following:
2 x Mains Power Leads
2 x ROHS Compliant Stagg Professional Oxygen-Free Copper Audio Cables - Custom built for these amps and for connection to the BBC studio.
I havent been able to audition the amps as I dont have the right connectors --- they do power up i.e. get warm ... I think I paid an OK price as I assume BBC gear is of a certain standard -- they could be a gem, they look quite well made to my non professional eyes although obv not intended for display ... I liked that they have a short power cable for positioning right by a speaker and a longer interconnect --- I'm just looking to recoup my money -- I bought them sold as seen and can only sell them on as such -- with delivery I paid £120 for the pair -- anyone fancy a punt at the same plus a fiver towards delivery ? ... also if anyone has any further info they can add or experience of similar amps feel free to contribute --- I have a nagging feeling these might be rather nice little amps but I need funds for the B&O to satisfy that other whim ......
If the amps are a complete write off I am prepared to refund 50% so i think that's pretty fair and I only say it as i hate writing i didnt have the right connectors as it always seems fishy to me ( you will see I cut off one connector with a view to getting it changed but then the B&O popped up !!!
