Yes I bought an extremely rare Sondex S100 valve amplifier. It's a very rare Radford amplifier! It's a 2016 project that I didnt intend starting but hey-ho and a few grand later I'll probably have a fantastic amp.

The first option would look infinitely more intriguing in your memoirs :eyebrows: That it's unnatural (and very probably illegal) only adds an extra piquancy to the story

I find the RS3's a very 'strange' speaker... are they the best at bass ? NO... are they the best at high frequencies ? errr NO.... are they the best at the mid-range ? err NO again.....
However they are one of the most musical speakers I have ever heard at any price...
Like I say they are very 'strange' but the more you listen the more you want to listen, if that makes any sense whatsoever..
I just put it down to the RS3's being a bit 'special' ... my god I am so c**p at putting into words what these speaker qualities are but they have a certain "je ne sais quoi" about them
Where your thoughts about the same Gazjam ?
I'm sitting here listening to a pair of RS5 which, of all the speakers I own, just work nicely in this room.
So much so I've not been able to bring myself to sell them.
I had a pair of RS3 for a couple of years, they're lovely speakers in the right room. Just up for it musical and nicely balanced. I know we've been over this ground before but with a Rega amp up them they just boogie.

Yes Rich I do love my Rega's for some reason which I can't quite put my finger on if you know what I mean... just so musical I guess that's it
Do you think going from my Audio Note amp to say a new Elex-R/Elicit-R would sound even better?

In all honesty Bev I as I've not experienced any AN kit so couldn't say how it compares. FWIW I owned a Brio-r and there was definitely a sympathetic union with the RS3 however that was ousted by my Benchmark DAC/NVA combo for grip, transparency and musical information.
My experience is that Rega kit does partner well and it would be interesting to see.

Hi Bev
Will always have a soft spot for the RS3's, loved mine to bits. :)
Happy across the board with how they sounded, my room isn't massive though and I think in a large room they would struggle with the bass.
Tuneful, musical, carries a tune fantastically but not the last word in bass depth.
That didn't matter to me, as you said they just make you want to listen to more music!
Great synergy with other Rega kit and I had a bit of a jaw dropping moment when I fitted TQ Black speaker cable to them.
Like new set of speakers with that cable, all the things that made them sound great we're even greater with the TQ.
I'd have that cable with those speakers and relax knowing you have some of the best synergy possible between two bits of kit.
Fit n forget. :)
Chuffed your enjoying yours, good aren't they?!

Hi Gazjam
Yes all you say about the RS3's I am also finding and like you they are in a smallish room
I am also using TQ Black speaker cable which seems to suit them just fine
The only thing I haven't tried is a Rega amp..somehow I can't see it bettering the Audio Note but you never know
Did you try a Rega amp with yours?
Yup, sure did. :)
I had the Rega Brio-R and the Rega Dac when I had my RS3s.
What you've heard about Rega synergy is all true, fantastic sounding combination, playing to each other's strengths.
Greater than the sum of its parts, was a cracking system.
Not heard the higher up Rega-R amps, think there was one for sale on here recently?
Can only imagine it would do more of what the Brio amp does.
If the RS3s work well in your room Bev I'd sit back and enjoy them. :)

Yes that's what I'm thinking as well Bev, I'm doing just that (enjoying the music) with my ancient modified Mezzo 3's.

Thanks Gazjam and Alan I think that's exactly what I will be doing with my RS3's, sitting back and just enjoying :)
Sometimes you need to be told to just enjoy the music, and that's what I will be doing, in fact the RS3's seem to me to be very un-hifi (I know that's not a word!) like if that makes any sense at all. Just the music matters for them... which I like very much... :D
