Prompted by the Musical Fidelity thread, Primare's another make that rarely seems to get a mention on fora. I suppose it's not that widely distributed, but my recent experience has been that it's excellent stuff.
I bought (not at full price, it must be said) a BP32 bluray / sacd / DVD-A / CD / streamer (based on an Oppo) and it's a wonderful player. I've just bought a Pre32 on ebay in new condition at well less than half full price, and it, too is really good piece of kit. It really makes the ATC SCM20ATSLs sing.
I did a search on here, and apart from Audiologica's ads, nothing !

Anyone else using Primare products?

I've always fancied some Primare kit after hearing some at the Bristol show a couple of years ago. What particularly struck me was how everyone else at the show was using their kit. Many speaker companies seemed to be demoing their latest speakers via Primare amplifiers. Also Isotek were making very favourable noises about the quality of their power supplies - and yes the mains conditioners were being demoed connected to Primare amp and CD players. However, they have been a little out of my budget, so it's interesting that Primare kit is now appearing on ebay.

I would have to agree. However, to my taste Primare is streets ahead of Musical Fidelity on nearly every level.

I'd take any of Yamahas modern kit over that blinged up dross any day.

They make real quality stuff; top notch build, great vfm and a really sweet, smooth and engaging sound. I far prefer them to the likes of some other, better known, Scandinavian companies (Densen, Electrocompaniet).

BTW, the BD32 happens to be a very fine sounding piece of equipment.

The more recent stuff is rather understated.

Quite a lot of "likes", then, but not many owners !

I previously owned the I30 which was a fantastic amplifier. I also have an A20 but it needs to be repaired. It's lovely looking gear that more than sounds the part.

I have heard, however, the newer amplifiers utilizing Class D circuitry are not as nice sounding as the older Class AB amplifiers. Hard to really say without hearing them, though.

The magazine reviews of the Class D amps (at least the ones I've seen) are universally very good, but there is a fair amount of Forum opinion (informed or not, who knows !) that doesn't like Class D amps. I think the Primare implementation is somewhat different from most because they engineer and produce their own modules. I've never heard them, but I'm curious to know how they would get on with Quad ESL63s. The UK distributor reckons they'd do very well, but then he would, wouldn't he.

Slightly off topic , but one of the guys up here uses Temple Audio monoblocks with his ESL 63s and they sound very good indeed :)

Primare, far from being "blinged up dross" is superbly designed and well made gear, as anyone who's had the privilege of ownership knows. I had the Primare i30 integrated amp which was built like a battleship, superbly engineered and would have driven just about anything. Sweet sounding amp too and would probably have out-lasted me. As already mentioned, streaks ahead of MF gear (imho anyway). Jerry...you have a short memory as I think you did in fact hear my Primare  and I may have even brought it over to jandl100 towers at one point (it certainly got an outing to Jakes).
