Hi my name is Ian, I am from Birmingham but live in Leeds
I am a hifi nut with a very limited budget, which is no fun when there are so many tempting goodies around.
My system comprises of a pair of diy Proac Response 2.5 clones,
A number diy chip amps.
A diy valve output staged CD player.
Xindac FS2 speaker cables.
I have been reading these pages for years and finally have registered.

Tell us what music you play. Sounds like you have an interesting system. DIY is popular here and many do very well on a restricted budget.

I started DJing in 82 playing indie/student nights, I moved on to house and techno in the mid 80s and never looked back. These days I will play anything out that pays the bills...sold my soul to the devil.
As an antidote to bangin beats I prefer world music at home, I love Nitin Sawhney and any kind of electronic fusion stuff. I am a fanatical collector of cover versions...the stranger the better!
I have a number of Gainclones the simplicity amazes me, 2 TA2020 amps one with a blue velvet pot and the other as a power amp. I am currently using a TPA3116 board (how can something that cost 8 quid sound so good?) I use a Coffee Shop LDR for volume control.
Of course as a DJ I have 2 SL1200s bought in 1982, back then you had to order them through National Panasonic. One day I will get around to modding at least one of them.
My DIY has taken a back seat of late (current Gainclone project on hold) due to failing eyesight and arthritis in my soldering hand.

Yes, I got one of the "blue" TPA3116 boards, did a few mods, stuck a nice stiff PS on it and.....yes it sounds a lot better than it has any right to. And...why does that tiny heat sink not get red hot!

That sounds familiar Ian. We have a few members with knackered eyesight and dodgy joints. I'm one of them. Still keep battling on though! :)

Yea, i've got arthritis in my left thumb and it's a nightmare rolling a perfect spliff.
