View Full Version : Portable Bluetooth Speakers
Just playing with part of my brother's Xmas pressie.:D
JBL Flip 3.
Damned good for £70 I think. Tis banging out New Order's Music Complete in total style.
So if you looking for a decent Xmas pressie...
It has a bigger brother at around £250. Got me thinking...;)
It sounds good pretty much anywhere you put it but it does vary quite a bit depending on location. That's just acoustics for you.
Surprising amount of balls for such a small thing. Long throw bass drivers either side of the tube.
It is a definite winner.
Walk down the high street with one on full blast playing your favourite album that nobody else will like. You know you want to.
The JBL Xtreme vs the rest. TBH the Flip 3 just has to be better value as you can pick it up for £50. You won't believe how good it is for that.

Have you bought a pallet load of them that you need to shift, Justin? ;)
No but I just went out and bought the Xtreme. So far I'd say get the Flip 3. The Xtreme is boomy.
I just ordered a Bluetooth speaker for my ipad... Then i see this:doh: bet mine is crap:eek:
Which one did you go for Grant?
The JBL Music app claimed to have EQ. So I downloaded it and guess what it hasn't. Defo the Flip 3 it is well balanced and a bargain. This might end up on eBay.
It got good review although thats no guarantee of quality but there was a fair amount off so guessing its an old model

Was intending gettingca roberts streaming radio but having got the ipad and found some apps for radio etc i thought i would try the cheap option for now. Still fancy the radio though

Well you have probably done a lot better than me. Running the Flip 3 again and I just really, really like it. The Xtreme's balance is questionable to say the least.
I will report on its musicality soon. Probably come on sunday. It will allow me to listen to my jriver content by streaming it from the pc upstairs into the ipad...another reason why i got it
Doing it as i type:eyebrows: streaming like. Sounds pretty decent on the little pad. Ive got a flac app too which is really good...one thing i will say about all the ipad apps ive tried is they are much higher standard than android ones...or seem to be
Well I am just try to find an Android equaliser that'll work with any Bluetooth output from my phone especially TIDAL. Think I have one... then I can correct the Xtreme's bass hopefully. Convinced with less bass it'll sound very good.

I've been building my own using things like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262003709094?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT and skip find speakers (glue them together, bosh a battery in there - topped up with a solar panel and one of these little amps: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271758749401?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Equaliser+ is the first one to do the job and yes it now sounds very good. Might not be the best equaliser tis only five band but I'll do til I find something better. Bye bye boom box. Why they balance things like this the way they do... twats it is obviously a good speaker.
Oops no it is buggy. Android shite. Next... LOL.
Got the speaker up and running... Set up quickly and has excellent sound with enough bass. Its not big but can fill a room at full volume without distorting. Quite nice packaging as well.
Got it running with jriver streamed to ipad then bluetooth to speaker.

Now running the radio app.quite impressed
I use a Mark 1 Bose Soundlink Mini, and I think it's phenomenal. Quite rich sounding in the bass, but that gives it a level of listenability and it never becomes tinny. The JBLs look interesting, too -- and much cheaper than the Bose.
Liked the look of the bose one but price put me off. This is not huge in bass but as you put it so well very listenable. Gonna try a gadget with airplay to try with my stereo
I put the Xtreme on ebay earlier today and it sold within an hour...
I like the Flip 3. The Xtreme drowns out the music with too much bass IMHO. The Xtreme's loudness capability astonishing for its size, though. I don't deny it probably is great for parties!
