View Full Version : NEW YORK and SURROUNDING AREA...advice please.
We are looking to go to New York next summer and I would welcome any advice, please.
The plan is to go to the city for 4 or 5 days to see the sights. Then somewhere else within fairly easy reach of NY, for another 10/12 ish days.
The 2nd part we just want a very chilled, relaxing time.
Someone has mentioned the "Hamptons" to us, as possibly being what we want.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? There are 3 of us. My daughter will be 14.
Thanks
I would say Atlantic City but a 14 year old won't be allowed in the casinos. The Hamptons is where all the rich folk live so I've never been there. ;)
There are some quite pleasant little resorts on the New Jersey shore but I've only passed through them.
AC is still worth a visit if only for a day, I'm guessing you will have a vehicle?
Martin, thanks.
After 5 days or so of New York, we wont want to be anywhere near another city.
Ive just googled and we can get a train from New York out to the Hamptons. We will probably hire a car there, but just to explore a little of whats out there.
Sun, beaches, nice quiet vibe, nice food, a book shop. Thats what we want.
Ah you want a holiday holiday. Can't really help with that I like to do stuff on holiday, mainly because I do jack for the rest of the year ;)
Ok, we are probably going to forget about the Hamptons.
So, a beachy type holiday is still something that we would like, and we are still open to alternatives.
But we have also thought about doing something away from the coast.
Under two hours from New York city, possibly lakeside or with swimming facilities, nice walks, cycling, log cabin, nearish to a town, etc etc
Holiday camp vibe is ok, but not massive size, with a zillion other folks.
Any further ideas?
thanks
