Cartridge alignment

Hello all,

This is just my second post, so thanks in advance for the hospitality.
I am enjoying my Rega RP6 and even more from when I replaced the factory fired Exact cart.
In the meantime I purchased a Dynavector DV20x and a Dennon DL103r
The problem is that I am not sure the cartridges are properly fitted.
I have a protractor for Rega arms, and the nessesary scale, still not feeling 100% I have done the correct alignment , as I can not pinpoint both points in the (Avid) protractor.
I got the Dynavector from a Bristol store, and although the guys were very nice and helpful, they tried to use the paper Rega protractor, that did very little to increase my confidence:)
Lately I re fitted my DL103r and it sounded Totaly different, and better, to the previous time.
Bottom line, do anyone know a store or anyone who could reliably help with the fitting? Also a general check on the TT would be a good idea.
Any suggestions?

The supplied Rega protractor is the one to use with your Rega arm. It is designed to give optimum results with your arm and costs you nothing.

There are a lot of 103 aficionado's here. Sure they will help. I believe adding mass to the head helps

i have an avid mirror protractor and if i remember correctly it says to only use one of the grids to line the tip up with.
i use arc protractors now as i find them more accurate and easier to use. you can download and print one off for your arm here. http://www.vinylengine.com/cartridge-alignment-protractors.shtml

The Dennon is already moded:)
Aluminium shel replaced the plastic one.
Definitely better than the 20 pence coin attached with blue tack I used before.

Hi Jamie,

Do you have handy the instructions that indicate to use only one of the null points (or grids) of the Avid protractor?
I see that other users are able to align with both points, how they do this beats me.

easy,you line up the first grid with the cantilever ,then move the platter so you can check in the second grid.as i said before i dont use these type any more,for me an arc protractor is better.

that makes sense now!
I was not moving the plater (it was nowhere indicated, at least clearly)

Update!
mission accomplished with the great help from fellow Bristolian, Steve, who was kind enough to offer his expertise.
all done now, and it sounds much better than my previous attempt.
it just needs to be lowered a bit (the VTA is a bit off), but in a Rega that is easier said than done.
