View Full Version : Speaker cable advice

Hope this is the right part of the forum to post this. I'm after any sage advice on speaker cable. My system comprises a Rega Elex-R amp, Rega Apollo CD player, Rega RP1 deck, laptop via Cambridge Audio Dac Magic all pumped through Neat Motive SX2 speakers.

Currently, and to appease my wife, I've got flat under-carpet speaker cable made by Merlin. It's OK. I think I could do better, and I think it probably doesn't need to be flat cable any more.

The current set up leans slightly towards the bassier end of the spectrum with the Neats, I'm interested in trying to brighten up the sound a bit. I've heard anecdotally that silver, rather than copper cables lend a more trebbly sound, don't know if that's true.

So if anyone has advice on the kind of price per metre I should be aiming to pay to do justice to my kit that would be good, any specific products to consider also welcome. Only stipulation would be cable needs to be either white or translucent - no dark colours.

Cheers
Tim

Rega Quattro speaker cable is worth trying . It's also cheap , and it's flat :D

Cable Talk 3 is also well worth investigating .

Nordost speaker cable is good for opening up the sound and making things livelier. I've used it often. It's very lucid. Lovely quality.

Van Damme with plenty copper in is good stuff too... 6mm stuff like the blue or the definition.

Hey Jamie , they've been in my system a few weeks now and they will be staying . I use this cable 2 runs per channel ( 4 runs per speaker ) and it sounds fantastic in my system . I tried 1 run and 3 runs per channel , but 2 was best . It's excellent in all areas IMO :)

I was using it twisted but I braided it into a 4-wire braid today and I believe that it was worth the effort . What lengths are you talking about Jamie .
