I want do some in-room measurements, just for interest's sake, and a new USB mike is £85 which is a bit pricey for a one-off curiosity-sating exercise.

Anyone got a suitable USB mic (preferably that has or will work with freely downloadable Mac software) either for sale or that they can lend me for a week or so?

I've been wanting to do the same and measure my room and come across this, which goes into a phone! Seems to get favourable reviews and wont break the bank! I've been meaning to get one myself, just haven't got round to it yet!

Looks interesting ... what sort of app would you use to drive this from, say, an iPad?

They have instructions and which apps (well they mention one) to use whether on iphone or android on their main website here_ http://www.daytonaudio.com/index.php/imm-6-idevice-calibrated-measurement-microphone.html

They say they don't recommend any specific apps.

I'm looking for something entry level (not having an engineering degree ....)

I just ordered one anyway I hope I can figure it out.

Audio tools is worth a bash Tom.

iPhones and iPads are a reasonable device to use and as I understand it allow direct (unfiltered and without the normal reduced frequency range typically applied to telephone communication whereas android I believe curtails low freq and high freq from the mic and is not suitable for accuracy for your intended purpose.)
