Cartridges from Japan.

Been looking for a Denon DL301 on the bay of e. There are any amount from Japan and the odd one from the states the latter with vastly inflated postage costs. Has anyone here bought cartridges from Japan? If so was the service good etc?

Yes, I have. I bought a brand new Yamamoto cart from a chap on that auction site (audiojp2011). The duty and VAT made my eyes water a bit but service was swift and good, with relly secure packaging. I then discovered that there was an importer in Germany where I could have got the same cart for give or take roughly the same price..

I have also had good experiences buying tonearms from (?) otomon vintage on the same site.

I had a go around with an outfit called JoyNetMall. They don't do inventory very well, so they tell you they sent an (expensive) item but really didn't, and then take 8 months to figure it out. They are goons.

I've only really had good experiences with buying stuff from Japan. Most sellers speak good English and are friendly, helpful and efficient. The exception was, as Walter says, Joynetmall - utterly DREADFUL, and AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Best ones I've found are, on ebay, foxtan (Alex) and 2juki. Also, Top Class Audio Art are very good (Tommy Cheuk, the main man there, is a top bloke and always up for doing a deal): http://www.topclassaudio.com/web/eng/used_product.jsp

Generally though, the service you get from Japanese sellers is great, and the whole experience is pretty much pleasant and trouble-free :)

Very interesting site Top Class Audio, items you just won't see anywhere else. He has a couple of turntables I would love, the SDC 10 being one, but getting something from as far away as HK in one piece (particularly a TT), never mind the VAT, Duty would be a big deal

Very pretty deck, but maybe a bit ott with the perspex for my liking. Think the SRM is about as much as I would want to go that way. as you say it would be some price to get it imported too.

I stumbled across it a few months back after doing a lot of reading about Oracle and that popped up as being the TT that directly influenced the mk1 Delphi, and I am curious as to what its like, but its way too much money to satisfy a curiosity - and even if it wasn't getting it to the UK in one piece... slim.

2juki was the best price when I bought one last January.
Interesting the comments re Joynet, I must have been lucky, I last bought from them 2 years ago, but several times previously and have had no issues.

i simply couldn't get them to reply to emails. I had a couple of queries about an intended purchase, and despite sending them umpteen emails (and replying to the contact form on their website), over a period of about a week, received no reply, which was frustrating beyond belief! :rolleyes:

They give the impression that English is spoken by their staff, but evidence strongly suggests otherwise... They're probably ok, if you're just buying something outright, so there is no need for any involved discussions, but otherwise I'd steer clear.

I'm afraid that when you're considering dropping the best part of a grand on something (as I was), and you get zero feedback from the seller, especially one so far away, it doesn't exactly inspire confidence!! :nono:

The other Japanese sellers I've mentioned, whom I've dealt with on a number of occasions, are the complete opposite, and very proactive and 'switched on'. That's the standard of service I require when buying goods from overseas.

My experiences with 2juki have been first rate. The guy is definitely top shelf.
