That's going to be quiet a detour :( Edinburgh to Stirling then to Perth, I don't think the roads or the bridge at Kincardine would cope with massive lorries - would it ?

I was quiet surprised to see that there is a new bridge being built, but I suppose with the problems from a few years ago they had to do something, and sooner rather than later.

Not been to Scotland in well over two years :(

Kincardine will take them I guess but wait times will be horrendous... The FRB takes 65k a day so directing them onto the poor access on the kincardine which is already a busy crossing is gonna be fun. Alas there is no option bar as you say going to stirling and back across on equally poor roads. Trains have taken some slack but its only a little.
Its a bloody big crack and I'm told there is more than 1.

There are two bridges now at Kincardine, so not as bad as it might have been. Yes Neil, the old bridge has no problems with HGV's. Funny how they built bridges in the Victorian era and in the 1930's that are still in perfect working order, yet one that is only 51 years old is f****d..

Yep the back road from Stirling to Kinross isn't great, would be awful in a big lorry.

Saw that photo on the news earlier - watching reporting Scotland now - not good.

LOL, yes that's true, however I was thinking of the Forth Rail Bridge. They are trotting out the excuse that traffic is much heavier than that allowed for in the original design specs. Can't tell me that's not the case for the rail bridge too..

I think it was before 2008 - which would explain not remembering a second bridge option - but I can't be certain. I have photos I took at Culross so the date on those will tell me when it was.

Think I went over it when it opened but not been over either since. Only been over the forth one 2 or 3 times a year in last 5 years or so. over to the golden sands with wife. used to get allowed to park right at the water. Liked our picnics there:(

That and the road improvements there made a huge difference, even at peak times there is rarely any queue to cross the bridges, unlike the Forth Bridge (in the normal course of events).

Great they are building the new bridge, but it ain't gonna solve the traffic problems, the new road from the new bridge still has to feed onto the existing road network..

Hi,

Back between 1990/93 ( can't remember the exact year) plans were shown to us to build a 2nd Forth bridge at a cost of around £50m. We were asked to look at location of water hydrants for Fire Service use hence the reason for us seeing the plans.

We weren't allowed to talk about it at the time, however it never came about because I think a different party got into power in Scotland and they dropped the idea.

2nd bridge at £50m bloody stupid expensive idea lol

My favourite bridge in Scotland is the Kessock Bridge just outside Inverness. Stayed in a rental house on the hill above it once, beautiful at night.

My step father used to co-ordinate all the air, land and sea rescue for the UK, he told me about a chap that tried to commit suicide by jumping off the Kessock Bridge. He forgot that the tide was out, and plopped into deep mud up to his chest.

Took some getting out by all accounts.
