Just my two cents….

Perhaps a better compromise would have been to remove Andrew’s posts, but keep the thread alive so that the contributions made by the other AOS members weren’t deleted as well. Or if the entire thread had to be deleted then start another one up on the same topic.

Especially as many folk came forward and declared they had the same problem with the platter wobble, and therefore the thread was highly pertinent to them. Some didn’t fully realise there was an issue because no one had come forward till Andrew. Also, other members with the same after-market platter are perhaps unaware and surely would want to know. Similarly, potential buyers would surely want to know about this too.

To keep such information from members seems a disservice.

I take your point, but removing Andrew's posts, and still allowing the thread to stand, would've resulted in the discussion not making sense to anyone new reading the thread. Also, please see my last post on the (now closed) thread in Critic's Corner, which should help explain everything.

The reality is that threads on any forum ultimately have a finite lifespan, usually when they've ceased being constructive - and the decision of when they've reached that point falls upon the management team to make. Sometimes, it's simply in everyone's best interests for a certain discussion to end, and for the parties concerned in a dispute to sort the matter out privately amongst themselves.

Anyway, as we're now in danger of this thread turning into a continuation of the one that's just been closed, for legitimate reasons (and the whole thing becoming pointlessly circular), I think it's time also to call time on this one, especially as Andrew has now informed everyone of his decision.

It's now either up to him or Mike New to bring this matter up again, if they so wish, or if anyone wants to discuss the old thread further with Andrew (or Mike), please take it to PM :)

I've decided to reopen this thread, for Andrew (if he so chooses) to talk about his lovely new Gyrodec, which I believe is the replacement for his Techy. How's it all sounding, Andrew? :)

This is not however an excuse to regurgitate the 'whys and wherefores' over 'ETP platter-gate', unless Andrew himself chooses to bring the subject up. Therefore, any off-topic posts, in that respect, will be immediately removed.

This procedure is being carried out to protect Andrew's interests, in terms of the thread deletion he requested before, so there's no point in allowing another thread to exist discussing exactly what he wanted to prevent!! *That* is the ONLY reason why this thread was originally closed. I hope that (what should be obvious fact) now penetrates into some rather rhino-thick heads 'elsewhere' ;)

If Andrew has changed his mind since then, however, and feels better about things now, then he can of course speak as he wishes. As I've said before, there is and never will be any deliberate censorship on AoS.

However, if Andrew would be prefer to forget all about what happened (and just concentrate now on his Gyrodec), that's fine, but should anyone else wish to discuss issues relating to the ETP platter, in a broader sense (leaving Andrew's experience out of it), in terms of any aspect of its design, quality control (or the MN bearing), then they are welcome to do so.

Indeed, as Mike New has been asked to comment on the ETP platter situation, it will give him something to respond to, so now is your chance. Any such thread, of course, should be started in the Techiepedia section of the forum.

Ok, quick update!

Only now realised the thread had been reopened.

The Gyro SE has been ordered, it was almost a straight swap in terms of money, my dealer who I better not mention done me a fantastic deal so after selling everything except the RB700 arm and the Lyra Delos I almost had to pay nothing towards it.:lol:

Michell are closed over christmas for 2 weeks plus a 6-8 week build time ) obviously to take in account other orders as they don't carry stock) so will probably end of Feb which works out nicely as it's my Birthday on the 22nd!

I've also ordered a Technoweight but can't get the bloody stub off so I'm not going to risk damaging it as I believe the later Rega's are glued in so the dealer will do it for me, they break it, they fix it!

Many years ago when I worked at Sevenoaks Hifi we had a Gyrodec on demo and I really liked it and used to go in early sometimes on a Saturday morning and set it up before the shop opened so fingers crossed it will all be good.

When it arrives there will be plenty of pics and the Avatar will actually be my deck.

Have fun with it, mate. I do rate the Gyro (synergistically partnered with the right arm and cartridge) very highly. Gazjam's one sounds fab! Different from a modded Techy, but equally musically valid :)
