Hi Guys

Asking all you sony ES lovers i have just bought the above for a bargain price. Heavy Beast this; Nearly lost my trousers walking it back to the car. :D...

Cheers.

No Belt and Baggy Trousers Andy  Not a good idea i must admit. I had a ten minuet walk to the car park which was a bit painful i had to stop on a couple of occasions :) What do you expect for £10..

Dan , I had a 570 ES with the same problem and was told it was the relays . I sent it to James ( istari knight ) to repair and the courier destroyed it , so never got to find out if that was the problem .

:steam: Thats got to be a kick in the nuts i wouldn't take the risk in sending it to james though i seems to miss him here a good chap and helpful he fixed my yamaha cr 600 when it needed tlc did a fine job.

Yup , I'm very careful what I send now . The relays seems to be a common fault with these amps . When you switch the amp on you should hear the relays ' click ' into life .

James did a few jobs for me and I miss him here too .

Try pushing the 'Speaker A' or 'Speaker B' (whichever is connected) in and out a good few times. My old 670ES had an issue (well known) where the relay (IIRC) would seize up.
There was someone one here who had one and fixed it themselves, I can't for the life of me remember who it was....

Update:

From switch on the reley clicks in but its kind of faint and not strong like most amplifiers it seems to work on speakers "B" in MONO but not in stereo and from 0 to one on the volume on rotation theirs a faint pop on the left channel then from 0 the volume sound is still faintly coming through

Well worth getting this sorted - I had a 690ES which I really wish I had been able to keep ...

A fair few of those big Sony ES Integrated amps are well regarded. I had the 700ES not that long ago (Jamie here has one too) - A nice amp. I'm soon to receive another Jap heavy weight integrated and looking forward to see how that will measure up :eyebrows:

Hi Guys

Is this amplifier respectable enough to get done this one needs a new volume pot "ALPS" and internal cleaning and is apparently working on both channels with source direct on but the volume pot is very erratic. Here's the big but do i need amplifier number 11 ?

What is the current retail value if i was to sell one on in OK condition but not perfect.?

Lol - not too long now Andy. It's being properly sorted and overhauled. Lets just say glue and black flags being removed amongst many other things before she's ready for me to receive :eyebrows:

The answers to your first two questions are "NO" and "Hell No".....

These lumps of rubbish aren't worth the postage it costs to ship them, but as an act of goodwill, I'll pay for a courier to deliver it to me, and I'll dispose of it safely for you. The WEE directive can be a minefield you know....:eyebrows:

:steam::steam::steam::steam::steam:

Just set this thing up to try the phono stage and its currently faulty.....Not the turntables im using as i use different amplification on all 3 and their fine its the Phono input of the Sony you need to wiggle the wires to make a good contact but it still cuts in and out on the right channel:steam::steam:.

So what do i do chaps taking it back and get it looked at a second time or cut my loses and sell the guys willing to look at it providing it doesn't need anymore new parts if so this might cost me again....I have had enough of gear not working so its time to save for something nice....

Watch this space this is coming home Friday....after a long overdue repair to the phono.

PS also maybe for sale in the very near future though has had a brand new ALPS volume control fitted this in tern has bypassed the tone controls so their no longer fit for use bonus as i dont use them but a bugger if i want to sell this on....
