Cutting hole for arm.... Advice please

I have a Wooden plinth and it came with two armboards. One is pre cut for an SME arm and that is what Im using at the moment.

The other armboard is blank and I want to put a different arm on it.

I can find the distance for the exact centre of this new hole. I know how wide it needs to be and Im going to make it slightly longer than needed, to give me a little leeway in adjusting.

I need some advice about the angle of this hole within the armboard . Any thoughts, anyone.

More info.

The arm is a FIDELITY RESEARCH FR 64fx. The base of it is circular, and is threaded. This goes through the hole and then is fixed in place with a large hex nut, also threaded.

I could just make this circular hole to the exact size, but I want to have some flexibility, so have decided ( and been advised ) to have an SME type "SLOT"

The reason I want some flexibility is that my cartridge is also by Fidelity Research. It is an all in one cartridge/headshell. I think this is called "Captive" Ie I cant adjust the cartridge in the headshell, once in position.

The "angle of this hole" to which I refer is this :
I could cut this slot facing NORTH/SOUTH. Or I could cut it EAST/WEST.
The current SME cut slot is somewhere in the middle of those two options. I hope that analogy makes sense.:)

Do I just line up the slot so that it points exactly at the spindle ?

Is this even crucial, or will the "slot" give me the flexibility I need?

Oh, I see :) - east/west is slightly better as it is the record centre to arm bearing pivot distance that need to be adjusted. Draw a line through these two points and that's the direction/angle of the slot.
