Jamie,

Hardwarewise, there are a lot of things cheaper in the land of the rising sun, check out the price of things like second hand Koetsus etc. New my Rosewood sig cost £1200 in Tokyo against £3k plus in the UK. However my choice when I go there is to stock up on Japanese pressed vinyl, always perfect, super quality pressings. However, Japan is never a low price destination :(

I hope I never visit Japan. If I do, I'll be visiting Hi-Fi Do and I don't think there is an airline in the world that offers the baggage allowance I'd end up needing! :D

I've got the answer to that. Start collecting airmiles (Avious). Use them to buy a 1st class ticket (you'll only pay the airport taxes), you then get 32kilo luggage allowance times 3 per person. You can get quite a bit of HiFi in that allowance assuming you don't take any clothes.

Visit Tower Records in Tokyo and blow the £500 on vinyl!
