No, they are not that bad. A bit unrefined but great fun with the right music. £100 tops for a minty pair.

They weren't that cheap IIRC. £350 about 20 years ago is £700 today. There used to be a dealer round here that sold them. You need super=smooth source amp etc and careful positioning. They are different rather than crap.

the Jamo AT-80 was the one speaker in their range that I came close to buying. Absolutely fabulous efficiency at about 103dB. The one shown in the pic is not from their hifi range, but more suited to sound pressure level instead of high end audio listening. I myself would not put that in the skip. I made that mistake already with a pair of Ditton 44 and Ditton 551. I should have ignored the "advice" given to me at the time that they were no good compared to the modern stuff. So don't make the same mistake that I got talked into.

Jamo made and still make some excellent speakers. However Jamo's profile in the UK has always been a bit patchy, and its easy to be snobby about them as a brand... i.e no good. That would be wrong thinking.

I visited the original factory and found them to be very progressive as a company, and I enjoyed my weekend there. The R909 was just about to be launched, I saw the prototypes.

Give them a listen, don't like em donate them to a charity shop or take them to the skip. They might surprise you, in not being as bad as you imagine.

He is in Leicester and describes them thus:

The Jamo speakers are s effect 170w. Music effect 250w. Frequency range 22- 20,000 h z . Sensitivity 0.9 w. 96 d b / 1m . Impedance 4-8 ohm. They are about two foot tall. Cabinets are a sort of dark wood plastic veneer. Ok condition.
