View Full Version : WANTED: Amp for around £350

Hello all

I want to move on from my Marantz PM66SE KI because while I love that big old beast it's a bit too bassy in my set-up. I play vinyl and stream using an Airport Express and my speakers are Monitor Audio BX6. So looking for something either a bit less warm or where I can control the bass. I could go and buy a Marantz PM6005 (£249 today!) but thought I would see if there's anything out there first. Would stretch budget for the something special - still hankering after that PM94!

Have you tried lightening the bass by changing speaker cables or interconnects? can make a fair old difference sometimes.

Could do, although I have a buyer for the PM66 lined up and TBH I've got an upgrade itch that needs scratching! Don't think some new cables are going to cut it!

Look for a Denon pma850. I've just sold one on here and the new owner is currently rediscovering his music collection!

It includes a three input (2mm & 1mc) phono stage of the highest order and it will pretty much drive anything too.

I have another PMA850. It's not for sale but that just shows how highly I rate the amp; when I bought my first I was so impressed that I bought another!
