Hi All,
It’s always a good day when a new Arcam AV Receiver lands at your door step and yesterday the brand new AVR850 arrived, this is bang up to date with all the latest features like Dolby Atmos, HDMI2.0a with HDCP2.2 4K “Ultra HD” and 3D video capability, it is also DTS X Ready once released but the biggest addition to Arcam’s new receiver line up is the inclusion of Dirac Live room correction. Apparently today the new SR250 will be arriving, another really interesting product from Arcam, basically a 2 channel receiver with Dirac Live built in which could revolutionise a 2 channel home system.
I think its fair to say that in the past Arcam’s room correction has been a little on the basic side but they really have taken a quantum leap with Dirac as this is considered the most advanced and effective room control out there at the moment.
We will have the AVR850 running at our open day this Saturday where you will be able to hear the effect that Dirac has, I haven’t tried it yet but Andy Moore from Arcam will be here tomorrow getting everything setup so I thought I’d wait to have a training session first before getting stuck in as a laptop is needed to set it all up as it is that advanced, once setup though you can forget about it and just enjoy the benefits it brings.
We will be running a Dolby Atmos in 5.1.2 configuration, I have never heard an Atmos setup before so really looking forward to this, Arcam have some special demo discs so it should be a day not to miss if you are into your home cinema, we will be firing up our JVC projector for that real cinema experience.
On a side note, it is nice to see the volume knob back on Arcam’s receivers and also a nice new modern remote control design :-)
