It's a crap recording - the stereo version is all left and right, with little in the middle. But no matter, this is a mono cut.
It will fetch a fortune simply because the sleeve is marked "0000001". The buyer will never play it, and the record will be left to rot in some Swiss bank vault. :doh:

It would be a nice Christmas present for somebody. Shame it won't ever get played. It will go back in to a bank vault most probably.
They are talking about this in the guardian today. The article mentions one of John Lennon's guitars that sold at the same auction house earlier this month for $2,400,000, and a Beatles drum head for nearly that.
I think my first guess on this album could be very light, there are clearly some very, very, very rich Beatles fans out there.

Well, the drumkit went for $2.1 million.
White Album currently at $100,000 which I am guessing is internet bids, and the bidding proper on the lot starts tomorrow at 10am Pacific time, which I reckon to be 6pm GMT here today...

Seems to be mainly to help fund their charity.
White album going under the hammer I am guessing at around 8pm, maybe a little earlier. It's lot 1005, they are currently at 930 or so.

BA: I did a quick google last night and think the most expensive record before yesterday was some Elvis acetate that Jack Black had bought back in January for $300,000.
I just had a read through the description of the drumkit, and it is not even fully original. The "Beatles" logo bass drumface is a reproduction, and a lot of the hardware and cymbals are not the actual ones that came with the kit. The snare drum is not included...! Yet still: $2.1mill....

That sounds about right for $600,000 plus commission plus tax. Would be $828,000 if 15% commission and 20% VAT for example (the usual UK auction costs, a compound 38%). For something like that, you'd be advised to create a company and VAT register it just to deal in this one item, save $100,000 odd.
