Maybe I'm becoming less forgiving, but I find that the more I improve my "system" the more choosy I get in what I put on the turntable... I'm now actually trying to work through my whole collection and discard some of the more "noisy" albums.
Now I don't mid the odd "tic" or "static" on the run in and dead wax - but more and more I find myself looking for that "perfect" playing copy!! Is this a common affliction :) :)

Surely the music comes before the medium? I have music I really enjoy on some records of rather unfortunate quality, but I'd not part with it.

Sometimes I find that noise can be reduced significantly with Cart adjustments and better cleaning techniques. My blues stuff that is old recordings is noisy nut only during the music and not in the spaces between tracks so not records fault but due to old noisy original recordings. That doesnt bother me at all. I am more concerned with poor pressing quality of many records even today. much of the 70's stuff used crap vinyl too which didnt help

I do agree, and also visual examination is not a great guide!! I have an early Fat's Lp that looks like someone has eaten their lunch off both sides, but it plays superb :) :) Others I have look absolutely mint but play terrible!! Lots of factors to take into account and as Grant mentioned vinyl quality does vary greatly!!
