Just bought an Arturia Minibrute analogue synthesiser for my mini recording setup.
Although the signal path is 100% analogue, there are some features that are digitally controlled.

Now to go off and pretend to be Eno

Having delved a little deeper into this synthesiser now it appears that the digital control is only for the LFO's with everything else being analogue. It certainly is a very nice toy to play with if you remember the early days of Roxy Music, Sweet and the Who.

M-Audio Axiom 25 MIDI Controller

This is certainly not analogue but enables me to control a whole host of software plugins via FL-Studio.
All of the encoders can be assigned to for example, filter sweep, resonance or modulation and the keys are velocity sensitive unlike the Arturia and are also aftertouch sensitive like the Arturia.
I just love making my own music however the mood takes me

Really Sam I'm loving any kind of synthesis and playing/composing. In the past years I have nearly always used Korg keyboards with my favourite purchase being a Korg Z1 back around Y2K. I am currently awaiting a compensation payment that has to go through the court system so that I may be able to purchase a couple of Croft Series 7 monoblocks and a Doepfer modular synth.

Well, you know, it is now the end of March and I still don't have my compensation payout...! Still looking forward to a nice shiny new Hi-Fi setup with Croft amplifiers and still looking forward to a nice modular synth setup. Sooner rather than later...!

Yes man, even my Minibrute takes around ten minutes for the oscillators to stabilise.

Roland ''A49' MIDI Keyboard & Roland 'Boutique: JX-03' Synth module.. It's an old vintage Synth now or nothing but the prices are bonkers..

I would love my old Roland 'Jupiter 4' & 'Pro-Mars' synths back..

Yes Andr'e I think it just has to be vintage or analogue synths from now on. Virtual analogue just isn't good enough and VST's are truly bad.

Synthesizer.com would be my synth of Choice. I went to audition a certain German Modular system a while back just did not do anything for me but dot.com did big style.

Yes man, love the Mellotron sound especially on 'Entangled' by Genesis but have never wanted to own one. It kind of loses out in the 'Rock and Roll' stakes to a really good synthesiser. Kind of like being a guitar God and then having to play bass. Never quite up there and definitely not Brian Eno.

I just love all of the different filter options effectively giving two or three different synthesisers in one cabinet.

Completely away from analogue synthesis and totally digital using the Sytrus VST plugin, here is my latest composition focusing on the salt marshes close to where I live. We get the most amazing clouds skidding across this massive flat landscape and it really inspires me.

Yes Man, Beatstep Black Limited Edition. Came complete with various plugins but who the hell uses them...? I have just weakened and bought a Korg Electribe EA-1 virtual analogue synth module and sequencer from back around Y2K as I used to use one back then and to be honest, I really miss the simplicity. In a month or two I shall buy a Korg ER-1 virtual analogue drum machine as well as I used to have one of those at the same time.

The EA-1 is mint, original box, original manual and original psu. I have just paid £110 including postage. I remember back when they were bloody expensive especially for the pair. OK, so the EA-1's biggest shortcoming is no LFO but it never stopped me from getting some great sequences running from it. It is very different from the Minibrute but much more programmable than the Beatstep which is very disappointing.

Just been playing on a beautiful Sunday morning with the Arturia Minibrute analogue synth and its associated Beatstep sequencer which was playing Pink Floyd's 'On The Run' sequence simply because it was. I wanted to mess with the units Brute Factor control which gives some fabulous feedback and screaming synth sounds. This is what I got.

I guess you've not heard a Nord Lead 1 then?

You can have rubbish analogue synths, and fantastic digital synths too...

My AKAI sampler has digital FX too, but sounds 'fat and analogue'.

Virtual analogue synths are exactly that, 'virtual' as in, not real. They are neither one thing nor the other. Digital synths can be bloody awesome as was the Korg Z1 I used to own. Sadly though, for tweaking, it still wasn't up there with a good analogue.

There are always exceptions. On the whole I agree with you though especially with regard to software synths.

Soft Synths are just too laborious..I just cannot get on with em. Id ben using the RSF 'Kobol' one for a bit, sounded good but you know

I so agree with you regarding VST plugin synths. I just find the whole thing tedious. I remember back around 1988 when I had a couple of Cheetah MS6's. Who the hell wants to control a synth entirely by parameters...? Jesus, get real...!

Do you still have the A3000?
I bought one a while back but have never really made the time to have a play.
Did have a tinker with my ESI 32 last year and had plenty of fun - worth the £40 or so I paid for it a few years back.

I bought the Yammy in the 90's it cost a fortune. I ended up putting it away cos it was just so big as in deep..I recently got the Yammy back out & was gonna try locate an outboard SCSI CD ROM to use instead of the floppy drive but never did. Its gone now anyway..

'808' are great, prefer them to the '909'
