Just bought 4 from 1973 vintage for my radford as a little treat. Looking forward to trying them against my quad set of electro harmonix el34s. Does anyone recommend any alternatives to the mullards?

I suppose it could be a valve powered one of these

But I think you'd probably need more than 4 EL34 to do the job :hmm:

Bought some JJ KT77's for my STA25 III some time ago, very good. The idea was to preserve my original Mullard EL34's, though in reality, I have
enough Mullards to last at least my lifetime!

Didn't know you could try KT77's, what the difference in sound quality?

Additionally what other valve types could I try?

Not much, from memory. I have not had the Mullards in for some time. Worth trying though.

The Radford STA25 that was re-introduced in the 1980''s was supplied with GEC KT77's. These are very expensive now. There was a Hi Fi magazine test of that amp, think the title was Radford Reborn. In the article it mentions the KT77 being used.

I do have four of those GEC KT77's too.

As far as I know, the only recommended valves for the STA25 are the EL34 and KT77

Just found the mag. It's Hi Fi News 1984. On the cover is "The Radford is back..." The article is "Radford Reborn" by Ken Kessler, and it starts on page 68.
