I understand that Barack Obama has just been awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize...? Tell me, how can a man whose country, the very country he is in charge of, be given such an award when his country is at war with another...???
Quite right. The Nobel committee would have been more courageous if the had given the prize to G.W.Bush, along with the Economy one, of course. :)

I'll tell you guys what...! We're going to invent a bomb that's so powerful just one bomb will destroy an entire city but guess what...? We're not going to allow anyone else to have one and then we'll get the Nobel Prize for peace...!!! Not blackmail, peace...!!

God dammit...!!! The British have beaten us to it and invented the same bloody bomb. Let's be friendly and tell them we'll share all of our information and nuclear technology...? When they give us all of their secrets, we'll clam up and tell them to f... o.....!!!

i seem to remember reports about the renewing of the trident missles AND in the the same week reports of iranians (or one or another eastern power) not being allowed to even investigate nuclear power ... i understand that that might be what they were doing.... but our leaders were talking about renewing our actual bloody weapons....
what about the time gordon brown atacked one or another eastern powers leader for taking power of the country without election............
it is a crazy mofo world where this sort of level of hypocrasy can be waved in our faces...

I must confess to being shocked by this one, but as the world is going to hell in a hand-cart, I suppose I should not be that surprised.
Its a bit like giving Daleks an award for peace making.

Barack Obama cannot take responsibility for having led his country into war but he can be credited for undoing America's pariah status. As for current engagements, if only it were as simple as just pulling out the troops the day you come into office.
If GWB was a war president, Obama is a good enough antidote.
Not to recognise this would be the same as blaming Angela Merkel for the Nazi atrocities in WW2.
A good choice imho - the world is a safer place for Barack Obama.

I agree to an extent but I don't think he has been given enough time to prove or disprove his worth.Nobel peace prize... It's a bit to early for such an acolade I recon. The guys who invented the ccd only just got a Nobel prize and they did that in the 60's(?) As a country (government) they have a lot to be forgiven for, and I don't think they are at that stage yet... However good thier leader is. To me Barak is just a representative of the country as a whole (that might be the wrong way of looking at it) ... This Nobel prize is like giving a dog a big bone just for sitting when the presure gets to strong to do so.... After shitting on the neighbours carpet for the last god knows how long!

While it may be a bit premature, actually I'm not so sure it's completely bonkers and could actually be a clever decision.
Consider this; the current mess the US of A is involved in was actually due to the genius of GWB and Mr O has the task of trying to sort it out. However, when you've just been handed the Nodel Peace Prize and the world is watching, do you not think this could definately have an influence on what you do?

Well, he had better not do anything too radical to soon as you may be certain he will be pretty much constantly in the cross hairs of the covert/dark forces/CIA snipers' rifle, in fact I'm amazed he's lasted this long and that's probably only because he's done sweet FA so far.
Anyone care to open a book on how long he's got, I don't think he'll see next year out.

What do you mean by he's done sweet FA  what is it you wish to see him do? bearing in mind the mess he's inherited.
Well it seems like he has a whiff of the Tony Blair about him. Granted he hasn't come into office at the best of times but I think people had very high hopes of new brooms sweeping the crap away and that just doesn't look like it's happening. Frankly I'll be surprised if his proposed health care reforms get anywhere and when it finally dawns on middle America just what the unraveling of the car and other industries means in terms of social policy it will no doubt be too late. Environmental/green issues, don't make me laugh, you can make as many speeches, sign all the treaties you like, if you can't change the average guys' mind set then forget it and I don't see any changes happening anytime soon. As for foreign policy, surely it's just more of the same old, same old.
Sorry, just can't see it and if he ever does look like he might be getting anywhere someone will take him out, it is the good old American way after all.

Whilst he's at it, why not introduce the UK's gun laws...??? That should be good for a laugh. They never worked here...!

Shaun,
Until very recently, I've been the owner of various types of firearms (for legal purposes) since I was in my teens, so I'm not anti-gun per se. But I'm firmly of the opinion that if ever there was a place that needed tighter gun controls, it's the US.
Our laws used to be fine, but they weren't properly enforced. Now they're just silly. A state of affairs that came about as usual by knee jerk reactions to rare occurences.

Actually Chris, (I have a bit of background here) I think our laws were always pretty good, well inforced and generally complied with by the majority of gun owners. The knee jerk you correctly identify was post Dunblane which resulted in thousands of law abiding hand gun shooting enthusiasts having to surrender their weapons. There were alot of disappointed Police Officer enthusiasts that got caught up in that nonsence.
Of course all such law does nothing but restrict the freedom of the law abiding accountable citizen. Those who remain unaccountable will continue to source their firearms illegally. The change in gun legislation had zero impact on the use of guns by criminals and we have seen a steady increase in criminal use over several years. Accountability is the key. All our laws of this nature automatically presumes accountability as a base line. That presumption will never apply to the criminal per se, hense the very law intended to prevent criminality, falls down at the first hurdle. It becomes a useless bit of legislation which has achieved nothing more than spoiling freedom for many responsible citizens. It makes my blood boil and I personally have no interest in firearms. I do however care about freedom for the law abiding people in our country!
It's just a variation on the laws on vehicle taxation. Every owner is expected to register and tax their car. However, if you don't register your ownership, there is every likelihood your evasion of tax will be successful. It's 'Pants' don't you think?

Greg

Well I remember Newbury, the same thing happened then, too.

I agree completely, we were by definition, among the most law abiding members of society!

Yep, so do I. Infact I completed a 180 mile in 18 hour cycle ride with a bunch of my colleagues to raise money for the affected families. It was hard work but did have it's novelty. Starting in Bristol and working our way from main Police Station to station through the county, we were making uphill progress out of Taunton towards Yeovil when a nice young lady in a passing car chose to nip the bums of the whole cycling team as she passed. At a time when we all felt particularly fatigued, this was a significant boost to our moral :)

Greg
I was a handgun club member/shooter too, (my first wife's father was an armed response officer, and got me interested in it) - and IMHO the laws banning them were a complete waste of time - there are probably more guns on the street than there ever were, and absolutely no record now of where any of them are - and in any case, guns (like knives, or baseball bats or spoons) don't kill people...
