Hi,
I need to replace the headshell leads on my Thorens TP-16. Does anyone have any reccomendations? Or are they all much of a muchness?
Thanks
Phil
No mate they can sound different- what you pay for is what you get- in my experiences anyway.:)
If they are just normal size leads then van den hul do some nice ones.got acset of mcs 150m ones here. Very nice with gold plugs.
A bit cheaper but good is

I was afraid that was going to be the answer! Thanks for the advice.

Cheers, Grant. I'll take a look at those and the VDH.

l know this Phil as l have had the pleasure of using two different yet relatively expensive headshell leads and trust me they sound better than the cheapies,:(

Unless the tonearm is already re-wired with equivalent quality silver stuff, I would caution against spending much on expensive headshell leads. Try basic, good quality copper ones sold by the likes of Analogue Seduction if new leads are required.

+1. Well said. 5N silver leads can be expensive but in my experience are better than Cu.

l agree, my SME ( Silver do sound better than the Ortofon Copper headshells l have.) However not by much and others may disagree.
my oyaide has silver wires I believe, and the yamamoto carbon has copper. got some vdh to go on it but hand to eye isnt good enough now so it will just have to do as it.... those carbon shells are great
I find it hard to believe one can hear the difference between 3" of silver wire and 3" of copper wire.
Been there, done that, and heard a marked difference... I've commented on this before :)
That's why I use what I do, in terms of headshell leads. See my sig! ;)

Yep and why I use these pure silver babies from Ortofon http://www.audioaffair.co.uk/ortofon-lw-800s-headshell-cables - Superb ! - I paid less for mine, worth every penny :)

They all sound the same of course. What is important is to make sure that the connections are clean and tight.

I got some reasonably priced audio technics ones in the end. The reviews all seem decent and as my arm is the original wiring I'm not sure if there would be too much benefit from anything much pricier. I think the leads on there currently are actually the originals so I'm sure after a bit of a clean up any replacement leads will sound like a massive improvement! Thanks for all the advice.
